You’re free not to recognize trans people. Freedom of expression cuts both ways. I’m not asking you to believe anything, agree with anyone, or change how you personally interpret reality.
People express views like yours all the time. YouTube is full of clips of Karens running into the practical limits of how much social deference they expect, usually when they discover that their personal sense of entitlement doesn’t automatically translate into authority over others. I may disagree with them, but I’m not arguing they should be silenced or prevented from speaking.
Where I object is when this moves from personal belief to social enforcement. When the state starts restricting people’s rights, whether that’s serving in the military, crossing borders, or having legal documents questioned, we’re no longer talking about free expression. We’re talking about discrimination.
Discrimination requires a compelling justification. Personal discomfort, majority norms, or the claim that something feels like “enough” don’t meet that standard.
