Trump Lowballs Ashli Babbit's Family!

There is no statute of limitations on murder or manslaughter. The Capital Cop could still face criminal charges.

You are that naive to think her family expected any settlement? They got a settlement and didn’t have to make up some bullshit story about their daughter yelling “hands up, don’t shoot”.

If they didn't expect a settlement, they wouldn't have filed a lawsuit.

If they didn't expect a settlement, they wouldn't have filed a lawsuit.
A lawsuit is a negotiation. Did you know that? Did you know you shoot higher from where you want to land? Maybe they wanted to land at $10M. If Trump paid them $40M, would you be giving him credit? No, you’d be bitching like you are now.

The victory in all of this is that Ashli Babbit was shot unarmed while you people cheered after burning down cities supposedly for cops shooting people unarmed. The government had to settle because Babbit didn’t go after the officer’s revolver. Hands up. Don’t shoot.

So after all the screaming about how Ashli Babbitt was murdered, the Trump Administration low-balled the settlement down from the 30 million her family was asking for, to a mere 5 million, which probably won't even cover the lawyer's fees.

This guy even cheats his own supporters!!!

The Trump administration has agreed to pay nearly $5 million to the family of Ashli Babbitt, a pro-Donald Trump rioter who was shot and killed after breaching the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The settlement, once approved in court, will end a $30 million wrongful death lawsuit filed by Babbitt’s family.

Prosecutors said in a hearing earlier this month that a settlement agreement had been reached, though details were not made clear at the time. The Washington Post first reported the settlement amount.

As Babbitt was attempting to climb through a broken window leading to the Speaker’s Lobby outside the House of Representatives’ chamber during the attack, a US Capitol Police officer shot and killed Babbitt. The officer was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing related to the shooting.

During a hearing on May 2, lawyers for Babbitt’s estate as well as attorneys for the Justice Department confirmed that a settlement in principle has been reached in the case and said the agreement would cover all parameters of the suit.

In April 2021, the US attorney for the District of Columbia determined that no federal laws were broken in the shooting. The Justice Department found “no evidence to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that the officer willfully” used unlawful or unreasonable force.
WTF are they getting a settlement for anyway? She was killed while committing a felony.

Except they didn't sue Trump they sued Biden. Once it became Trump's government, he should have given them everything they wanted.

But he was too cheap.

I think you are all over the place.

Let me help you out.

No cities got "burned down". Sure, there were fires, but no cities got burned down like Chicago in the Great Chicago Fire.

The government didn't have to settle. Byrd had already been exonerated. No DC jury was going to give an award to a crazy white woman who tried to overthrow an election.

She was shot because she was at the front of an angry mob trying to shove the doors in.

Why is five million about right?

They've given bigger settlements to people who didn't even die!!!

Shit, George Floyd's family got 29 million!!!
Loon blue jusrisdiction

You people burnt, looted, and maimed throughout cities in the US and you le justification was that law enforcement needed to be trained. A short few months later, a law enforcement officer shoots an unarmed protester and your justification is based on an unsubstantiated notion that she was trying to overthrow an election.

You know, I don't remember doing any burning or looting.

What I remember was losing my job during Trump's recession.
What I remember was taking a 70% drop in my side business.

But to the point. The "Unarmed protestor" was part of a mob that injured 140 police officers, one of whom died. They brought zip ties and melee weapons and were chanting "Hang Pence". They were there to sight-see.

But, hey, if you really think Babbit got a bad deal, you should be really upset her family only got a paltry 5 million.

If any part of what you said is true regarding January 6, then the Babbit family doesn’t receive any award.

more for context but it was deemed a lawful shooting why the payout at all?

  • Incident: Babbitt was part of a mob of Trump supporters storming the Capitol to disrupt the certification of the 2020 election results. She attempted to climb through a shattered window in a barricaded door leading to the Speaker’s Lobby, near the House Chamber where lawmakers were evacuating. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd, positioned on the other side, fired one shot, striking her in the shoulder (some sources say neck). She fell, received aid from a USCP emergency team, and died at Washington Hospital Center.

  • Context: The mob had broken glass panels and ignored warnings. Byrd, in plainclothes and a COVID mask, fired as a “last resort,” unable to see if Babbitt was armed or her intentions, amid reports of weapons and pipe bombs. Video footage shows her with a Trump flag as a cape, acting agitated.

  • Investigations: The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Capitol Police (2021) found insufficient evidence for criminal charges against Byrd, deeming the shooting “lawful” and “potentially saving lives” of Congress members and staff. Byrd stated he saved “countless lives.
Now for the truth, a mob of instigators bused in about a half an hour before the trouble started. maybe that is why Pelosi denied the extra security.

Wait, now. According to Trump and MAGA, Ashli was an innocent bystander who was ruthlessly murdered by a negro with a gun!

How could they whittle her down?

If they are now saying the government was in the wrong, they should pay her family (not her, she's worm food!) the full 30 million.
Why? Why is $30 million correct? And why did the deceased family settle for $5 million if they were guaranteed $30 million as you so stupidly claim they deserve?

Trump will never be brought to justice.

But...

I'm just glad there was a hero willing to hold the thin blue line before the mob got access to the House Chamber. Through his actions lives were saved that day as there were more officers in the chamber with firearms. There would have been more bodies if the violent mob had made inside.

No, he wasn't. But there's the thing. The MPD and Chauvin were in the wrong
Bullshit. Despite Chauvin risking his own life in the middle of a major thoroughfare during busy holiday traffic to valiantly protect Floyd, the junkie still died from a fentanyl overdose.

That's why you don't do drugs, kids.

Chauvin is a hero.

defense would whittle it down with circumstance, did this person not try and break and enter into a government building? did the officer who shot him was aware he might have had a weapon and could have killed more people? this was action and reaction and now she is 5M richer, she can live her life in luxury with no debt or burden
SHE… didn’t get shit besides a bullet on the neck. Which was all she deserved

They are, $5 million. Why shouldn't offer more? Because Trump has an obligation to taxpayers as well, to be a good steward of our tax dollars.
Then why is he pissing money away on golf and a fucking parade?
