I see this as McConnell's way of severing Trumps hold on the repub party. It is his acknowledgement that Trump lost the election. Whether Trump remains relevant in politics is up for grabs. We know the majority (demo) will ignore him. The rest will be split as he still has his supporters who will remain loyal for about a year. Of course there will the few who will hold on to that maga hat and flag in their front yard. Trump used the repubs for his ego and the repub establishment used him to get their people into the supreme court. McConnell also acknowledges how large the debt has grown and in his way addressing that issue.
