Greenland has a pretty sweet deal with Denmark now. Greenland has extensive autonomy from Denmark. Denmark sends them $500 to 600 million dollars a year in grants which comes to about $12,000.00 per Greenlander. A one time payment of $100,000.00 to each Greenlander won't mean squat given all the benefits they are now receiving from Denmark. Will Trump give them free health care? Not to mention Greenlanders have access to the EU and all it offers. You want to bet?
The average income of a Greenlandian is approximately 277,000 DKK per year, which is about USD 45,000.
Two years + worth of income is a big deal up there.
U.S. officials have discussed sending lump sum payments to residents of Greenland as incentive to secede from Denmark to join the U.S., according to a media report on Thursday.
While there's been no firm proposal in terms of dollar amount or exactly how the payment would be made, officials have talked about amounts ranging from $10K to $100K per person, Reuters reported, citing two people familiar with the deliberations.
This will help Americans so much! I mean how could it not? Its obvious giving thousands of dollars to citizens of other countries will benefit us greatly! America First! MAGA!
Lol he is not going to lower anything. He just asked for half a trillion more for the pentagon that cant even pass an audit.During the election trump started saying he would lower the debt . How much will he lower the debt by giving your money to the people of Greenland?
From what I can ascertain, Trump is attempting to shore up all natural resources within the hemisphere of US power, which includes Venezuela. The last thing he wants if for countries like China who are the adversaries of the US, to exploit those resources for themselves. It would be nice if he dropped this whole Greenland thing.
He wants it. It’s not for sale. That should be the end of that story.
He’s getting really aggressive internationally and it’s making our allies very uneasy. It would be a total disaster for us if he uses the military to provoke them.
They would be Americans! You would think those ideas would at least be America first. And not funneling billions of dollars to foreigners.
Are you mad? First, no way in hell I offer $1M per person, $10-25k per person would suffice I am willing to bet. The citizens there have been disgruntled with their relationship with Denmark for many years, even without U.S involvement. U.S offering them an alternative has impulsively been popular with some even without extensive rollout of an influence campaign.Greenlanders would not accept a million dollars per person from Trump. Trump can't help making himself look like a fool.
The US has tried to acquire Greenland before because, just like the Alaska purchase there would be enormous strategic and economic benefit to America. The Trump administration is looking at several options to acquire it from Denmark. There is no way it will be a military takeover. You would think those ideas would at least be America first. And not funneling billions of dollars to foreigners.
Why sure! Who cares if Trump ***** a NATO ally, right?$3,000,000,000 / 30,000 people is $100,000 each. I'd bet they'd go for it.
Denmark won't be happy, but who cares.
There's a "well they are not using it" argument to be made.![]()
I don’t think bribe is the right word here. It’s a purchase with money going to the citizens instead of the government. It’s not much different than Louisiana or Gadsden really other than the purchase price is going to the citizens of Greenland instead of the King of Denmark. Which actually seems like a more fair deal.So politicians bribing people is cool now? You ******* hack.
They’ve already said no. Multiple times. From what I can ascertain, Trump is attempting to shore up all natural resources within the hemisphere of US power, which includes Venezuela. The last thing he wants if for countries like China who are the adversaries of the US, to exploit those resources for themselves.
Greenland is also just hop, skip, and jump into the US in terms of strategic importance as both China and Russia have increased their presence in the arctic. It would be akin to the concern JFK had for Russia using Cuba as a launch pad for their nukes.
And yes, it is a bribe. Trump is doing everything he can to try and strengthen the US from its adversaries.
Will the citizens of the US benefit? I suppose if you think living under the Swamp is better than President Xi.
Sometimes it is hard to tell which is worse, but once you study how tyrannical the CCP is, yea, living under the Swamp is better.............at least for now.
Well let’s calm the **** down about this Ally shit. Denmark has 8,000 soldiers so really they need us far more than we need them. It’s not like there’s an equal benefit going on there. Why sure! Who cares if Trump ***** a NATO ally, right?
Who said no? The people or the King? They’ve already said no. Multiple times.
Now what?
Sounds like my SonIL wanting my truck that I don't use.No, there isn’t.
My neighbor has a truck they’re not using. I want it. They don’t want to sell it to me.
