Accordingly, they are charging outrageous transit fees, delaying transit for essentially all ships, but accepting bribes for those wanting to jump the line. The situation is seriously fucked up, with no resolution in sight.

It would be to our great advantage to take over the Canal at this time, even if we had to invest some billions to access a supplementary source of water. If we don't do it, the Chinese will make them an offer they cannot refuse.
