I see you really don't understand farmer subsidies. All countries have them in smaller or larger amounts. So the farmer welfare is only for red state farmers? Because the hypothetical is that I will starve without American farmers. Blue state farmers are okay because they won't get the welfare? No. I don't need to grow it in my backyard. I can buy it from China and get in here in three days. And I don't have to pay farmer welfare.
I live in Southern California. I don't have winter. People with winter will have to figure it out for themselves. I am not responsible for winter. Sink or swim.
Do you know that you can by local produce? Just a few hundred miles to the North of you is the grain 'basket' of the world. In CALIFORNIA!! Go up I-5 and look around. SOCA is increasingly becoming a shit-hole. I suggest you move.
Do you suffer from Dotard?
Farmers are not bad at farming they just have to plan far in advance. They have land that is limited in what they can grow. For instance you can not grow oranges in South Dakota, to far north. A farmer spends hundreds of thousands on machinery based on what that land can produce. They then spend thousands on seed and fertilizer based on a hope that in the months that follow he will get a good price on what was planted. During those months of grow time drought, torrential rains, huracanes, freezing weather and more can effect their crop. If the weather, bugs, rodents and other things have not killed off their crops then it is time to harvest. If not too many farmers have planted the same crop, if some country has not dropped a large amount of that same crop at a low price then they can get a decent price for their crop. If they don't get a good price or a crop they can sell they have still either paid for or taken out loans for the seed, machinery, fuel, repair of machinery.
So even if you were the most perfect farmer weather, insects and pieces can still do you in.
Do you think that someone hit by a Huracane or forest fire should not receive help? Obviously they chose to live in the area hit by a flood or tornado.
