There's a reason you don't hear many Repubs saying anything about this illegal purge of IG's. It's essentially the same reason Hegseth was confirmed. They are afraid of being targeted by trump for retribution.
Trump Fires at Least 12 Inspectors General in Late-Night Purge
President Trump fired at least 12 inspectors general late on Friday night, three people with knowledge of the matter said, capping a week of dramatic shake-ups of the federal government with a purge of independent watchdog officials created by Congress to root out abuse and illegality within federal agencies.
The move capped a week of major shake-ups of the federal bureaucracy focused on loyalty to the president, three people with knowledge of the matter said
Two people with knowledge of the matter said on Friday night that 17 inspectors general had been terminated; a third person said on Saturday morning that the figure was at least twelve. A White House spokesman would not comment for the record, and did not respond to a request for a list of those who had been terminated.
Presidents have the prerogative to dismiss inspectors general. However, they are supposed to give Congress 30 days’ notice before they do so and provide specific reasons. The White House spokesman did not respond to a question about why that law was not followed.

I can answer that. Anyone who thinks the trump admin will follow any law it doesn't feel like following isn't paying attention.
He did the same thing during trump 1.0 but not as many were fired. One was fired because he was looking in to Pompeo's misuse of staff, having them run errands for him.

Pompeo says he asked Trump to fire inspector general because he was 'undermining' the State Department
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday said that he asked President Donald Trump to remove State Department Inspector General Steve Linick be fired because the independent watchdog was "undermining" the department and wasn't performing in a way that the top US diplomat wanted him to.www.cnn.com
But Don doesn't like Mike any longer. It's why he displayed his pettiness once again and took away Pompeo's security detail.

On the whole Don's behavior was restrained by folks like Gen. Kelly from being the impulsive, reckless, dangerous, cretin he is by nature. Nobody like Kelly is around any longer. We're seeing trump unbridled in being the corrupt prez he wants to be.
Can anyone think of a reason trump would remove all those IG's? People with the responsibility to be watchdogs over corruption in his admin.
TRiUMPh!trump has become the prez he wanted to be during his first term, but couldn't.
Amen! God save Trump!

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, a longtime supporter of inspectors general, said he wanted to know why Trump fired the watchdogs.
“There may be good reason the IGs were fired. We need to know that if so. I’d like further explanation from President Trump,” Grassley said in a statement, adding that a detailed 30-day notice of removal was not provided to Congress.
"At the pleasure of the executive"
Suck it.

........is the Act passed by Congress to ensure IG's are not fired for political reasons. IOW, it's the law trump broke.
If you want to have any kind of credibility you at least need to acknowledge firing 17 IG's without cause is not routine as trump claims. It is, in fact, against the law written to prevent these apolitical inspectors for being fired without justification.TRiUMPh!

Precedent was set Jan. 20, 1981 when Reagan did the exact same thing with 15 IGs. Please keep up. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it illegal. Elections have consequences. These IGs were part of the last admin, which was the most corrupt in American history, the first that need blanket pardons for offficials in the admin, the presidents family, and even members of his party. They are disloyalists who would sabotage his office. You know, like they did in his first term. Can anyone think of a reason trump would remove all those IG's? People with the responsibility to be watchdogs over corruption in his admin.
Obviously to be replaced with die-hard trump supporters.

Running away from the law. Not that anyone among lawless Repubs will even bother trying to enforce it.
