To get my wife's green card, we had to submit over 200 pages of documents proving that our marriage was a legitimate one, including tax returns, photographs, statements from friends, etc.

Children who have a parent who is a citizen is born a citizen. How many people did you ask because I feel like it wasn’t very many.

How will you know if the parent is a citizen? Who will make the determination? Where will the documentation be stored?

Currently, it is very simple: all you need to do to prove your US citizenship is to obtain a live birth certificate from the town/city clerk where you were born. There is no politics involved, and the records of the town/city have traditionally been extremely reliable (although nothing is perfect).

What will replace this system? When our country was first created, you had to own property to be considered a full citizen and vote. Should we go back to that system?

Today, we have proof because all you need is a copy of your live birth certificate from the town/city where you were born.

The proposal is to get rid of that. You will no longer be able to use a birth certificate.

How would you prove you are a citizen if you can't use your birth certificate? What document? Who will create the document? Who will store the document?

And no, it actually doesn’t need to be put into the constitution because by your very same logic, every gun control law in America would require us to re-interpret and rewrite the second amendment, (not that I’m in favor of any gun control laws as all gun control laws infringements) we’re not changing the 14th amendment. There’s nothing wrong with a shrinking population, wages, go up cost of living goes down. Housing becomes more affordable land becomes more affordable. And with advent and automation and robotics we probably don’t need a lot of people going forward.

One new wrinkle in requests for marriage-related green cards is residency. The Trump administration is prioritizing a shared domicile for the migrant and the U.S. citizen, a requirement that was not prioritized in the past. Bernstein says.​

“Immigration officers do not care why you live apart, and they do not care if it’s for work, school, money, or convenience,” the attorney added.​

“So, if you’re not living in the same house every day, immigration is going to start questioning the marriage. And once they question it, they’re investigating, and once they come knocking on your door, they’re looking to deny you. So, if you want a marriage green card, you live together. Period,” he explained.​

USCIS has warned migrants that a marriage to a U.S. citizen has to be real, not just an arrangement of convenience. And the agency will deny green cards to those who married with “no good faith, intent to live together as spouses and intended to circumvent immigration laws.”​

In November, the Trump administration even suggested that migrants who already hold green cards could find their status reexamined and reassessed.​
