Trump considers using military to take out the Mexican drug cartels .

We tried this with Pancho VIlla. It failed.
We tried the Mexican Army doing this. It failed. The Mexican Army became hired guns for the cartels.
We tried this with the Mexican Navy/Marines. It failed.
Our history with using special forces to defeat enemies has met with very mixed success.

What would be the goals?
What would be the plan and methods?
What do we think the Mexican government and Cartels would do?
How would we adjust to that?
What is victory?
Are we prepared to see special forces hostages tortured to death on TV for these goals?
I am not against it, but I am asking questions. the one thing I did like about the Trump admin was the idea of getting out of forever wars, and as a reminder Mexico has been a literal forever war since Cortez's ships spotted land.

Send in Tier 1 Operators and the Cartel's would be done.

I am assuming that you’re OK with Mexican special forces conducting cover operations against gun dealers in the United Ststes who supply the cartels with most of their weapons.

its being reported that the incoming Trump admin may indeed use the military to target drug cartel leaders, labs ect .. given the fact that the cartels are directly responsible for the over 100 thousand overdose deaths a year from drugs like fentanyl the US gov has every right to designate them as Terrorist organizations and go after them with surgical strikes to protect the American people from the poison they are producing and smuggling into the US .. and don't be surprised if the leftist in the US and around the world claim that hitting said targets are war crimes ! if Trump uses the military to strike drug cartels the left will attempt to charge him with war crimes .. bank on it !

Respectfully disagree.

I was drafted into the Army in 1968 - everyone in my Fort Dix NJ Company smoke pot . I refused to smoke pot then and still do. I don't use any drugs (cocaine, Heroin, Fentanyl etc) . The folks using Fentanyl can easily abstain but they refuse.

One of the most powerful police force in the world was the KGB yet they could not keep the black market out of the USSR. I doubt Mexico can prevent black marketeers from operating in their country even if they tried. I would hate for the US Armed Forces to operate domestically and shoot individuals merely because they are suspects. A can of worms indeed

You'd think Mexico would want our help to do this. I'm also in favor of declaring coyotees terrorists and taking them out with drones.

you are right of coarse .. but they will claim he committed war crimes and may even use the accusation as the basis for a 3 rd impeachment if they take the House in 2026..
War crimes are not an impeachable offense according to the Constitution because no one knew what a war crime was in the 1700s although they did exist.

There is no such thing.

Gun dealers ? You mean criminals right ? I have no problem with US law enforcement being let loose on these people and them being executed. Deterrence is the key

Good.

He should designate them as a terrorist organization and take them out.

Obama and Holder are no longer in office to run guns to the cartels.

Then what? What if they retaliate against US police? Local government? Shooting construction workers?
Are you prepared for that? Thats whats occurring in Mexico.

It's not news. It isn't even based on fact. It's an intentionally provocative essay by somebody named James Bosworth and spin from Yahoo news to create hysteria on the left about the upcoming administration. Lefties have short memories though, thanks to media spin almost nobody remembers Obama's monumental fukup called "Operation fast/furious" where the federal government sent thousands of illegal weapons to Mexican drug cartels and lost track of them. There is no statute of limitations on murder so Obama and his henchmen can still be indicted for the murder of a Border Patrol Officer who was killed with one of Obama's weapons.

They are already killing 70,000 Americans per year with their fentanyl, stupid.

No, Americans are killing themselves at that rate.
These are questions you have to ask if you are contemplating war. By not asking these things we keep messing up.

When did that happen?
Thats been a tactic for decades in Mexico. You can google yourself but I advise against it.

So, you think our special ops troops will be captured and executed by the cartels? You don't know them very well, do you?
