The prosecution hasn't been able to prove that Trump knew anything about what they claim was an illegal act.
The prosecution keeps proving that Michael Cohen pulled this stunt on his own.
As far as Trump knows, any payments to his lawyer Michael Cohen was a legal expense, and what's even worse for the prosecution, Trump never paid the checks to Cohen.
He didn't know that Michael Cohen was paying Stormy Daniels.
The Defense proved that Michael Cohen may have been trying to shake down Trump because Trump didn't give him an important position in the White House. He was very upset about this. Seems a lot of people were hoping for jobs in the administration, and didn't get them.
Mitt Romney is pissed that Trump didn't put him in his administration, and this led to a lot of nasty comments on his part. It appears that Michael Cohen is more of the same. It seems that Trump has had a lot of people meet him in his life and they became enemies simply because he didn't give them what they wanted. This often happens to celebrities.
