Hundreds of times during his campaign, and again after the announcement that he had won the election, Trump has promised that he will lower inflation, "Donald Trump, U.S. President-Elect: I went on groceries. It's a very simple word, groceries. Like almost, you know, who uses the word? I started using the word, the groceries. When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time. And I won an election based on that. We're going to bring those prices way down".

Three days ago in an interview, he started to backpedal on that promise:

What's behind Trump's backpedaling on his promises to lower prices

After making inflation and the cost of groceries part of his campaign, President-elect Trump is starting to walk back some of his promises to lower prices.

My question on this OP is as follows:

"Will you be forgiving, excusing, or angry at Trump for not keeping his promise?"
"Trump hasn't kept his promise to reduce inflation."

He's not president yet, Gomer.

All simple, but logical and true.

The question is,

Why oh why of why...did Trump LIE ABOUT THIS, during his campaign?
Where is the lie? Trump's simply being honest about how it's far harder to bring inflation down than it is to increase it. Do you think that people are going to go back to their old wage levels? Obviously that never happens. So the goal is to decrease the cost of goods that those wages are purchasing. You do that by decreasing regulation and lowering energy costs. That's something that Trump has done in the past and it worked rather well.

Sad but true.
Like you, I want to believe the electorate takes their responsibility to stay informed seriously. And that it would respond positively to detailed explanations on the myriad of causes behind the inflationary spiral the world experienced.
But they don't. They are instead susceptible to the kinds of simplistic, bumper sticker sloganeering (MAGA) the Repubs are so good at.

NOW he is being honest. He was NOT honest, during his run and campaign...

And no, trump can't lower the price of fuel much lower than Biden has done already, because then our oil producers in the north etc, would not be profitable, and would lower production....reducing oil on the market....to raise prices again.

Perhaps you could wait till he's in office?

Unfortunately, we have an electorate that largely doesn't pay attention to, or care about, nuance, detail, or facts.
True.

Including the fact that presidents have no control over costs and prices – if prices are high it’s the consequence of corporate greed and gouging.

Perhaps you could wait till he's in office?
No, Trump promised this and this is about how people will feel if he doesn't keep his campaign promises. Why would we have to wait until he is in office. How would that make a change in the feelings of people regarding campaign promises being kept or not kept.

Are you looking for potential excuses? Then say so in the poll

True.

If corporations can simply raise prices because of greed, why isn't inflation
100% a year, every year?

The Breeze You rate the OP and you rate several of my responses but do not answer the OP question? Are you afraid (a cowardly critic)?

Where does TRUMP backpedal, all I get is TRUMP acknowledged it's gonna be hard to get prices down.

The question in the OP is whether failing to keep his promises is important and negatively TRANSFORMATIONAL and GENERATIONAL to the Trump supporters

By the way and as far as Oil is concerned. You are aware that the Oil companies need $60 oil to break even, aren't you? and all Oil companies are in business of making profits. With Oil presently at $70, Trump is not going to BE ABLE to bring oil prices down. The Oil companies will not allow it. Why would they produce more to make less profits?

Answer that if you can!

You do know a whole lot of costs to oil drilling and exploration goes towards regulations? Remove the regulations and it changes the needed break even price point.

But where does he say it will be hard in this statement shown below?

Or indicate that in any of his statements regarding this, during his campaign?

Don't see it in that statement., He did however in another statement, with TIme

"I don't think so. Look, they got them up, I'd like to bring them down. It's hard to bring things down once they're up," he said. "You know, it's very hard."

Are you suggestin that in order to help one problem (inflation) be reduced that we create other problems (such increased CO2 that will cause further Global warming) ?
r
Even then, the actual break even price for production Oil is $62, how much can that be reduced so that the companies still make a good profit (5%, 10%, 20%)? 20% would be impossible, so it is one of the other two, meaning that the price of gasoline, which is presently at $3 a gallon, would be brought down to $2.70 or 2.85. How much do you think inflation would come down?

On top of that, lowering the price of Oil would cause the overseas oil companies to start to lose money as their restrictions would not be lowered, meaning that an Oil war would occur and that would bring in further problems.

I do not think that Trump will be able to do his "drill, drill, drill" promise and get much accomplished. The Oil INDUSTRY is not game for that. They do not WANT lower oil prices as that would cause them problems they do want. Oil companies are not here to help inflation go lower, They want higher inflation...............they are not here to help the country but to take advantage of the country.

Did you click on the link given? This statement you show is where he promises to bring inflation down but in the video given in the link is his statement that "bringing inflation down is hard"!

Trump is a boaster but generally as a rule backs up in spades
his foretelling.
