"Several hundred people gathered outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland Sunday afternoon and into the evening to protest the Trump administration’s deployment of National Guard troops to the city.
Federal agents armed with long-barrel firearms patrolled from nearby rooftops.
Families, including grandparents and children riding bikes, filled the streets alongside the longtime protesters clad in the “black bloc” style of ski masks and sunglasses who have been outside the Portland ICE building off and on for the past several months.
When the presence of federal agents reportedly began ramping up in Portland, city and state political leaders urged people to stay calm and told them, “don’t take the bait.”
Dina, the protest organizer who is also a deacon at a Portland-area church, said many protesters took issue with the sentiment, saying it “perpetuates the Trump administration’s posturing about how we are dangerous protesters.”
“We are not. We are average, everyday citizens who are tired of the illegal actions of this administration and we are out here protesting well within our constitutional rights,” she said.

Nothing that cant be undone in 3 years. Literally there was nothing of Trump's first term left in place 30 days after he left other than Tax cuts - the only legislation passed and supported by rich Liberals as much as rich Conservatives.
I'll grant you the interim damage cant be undone but future damage can be righted. Its up to America to decide what type of future it wants.

I guess we'll have to see what our electoral system looks in three years. It's difficult for me to imagine that they would go as far as they have -- and we're only a few months into this -- unless they're not worried about losing. I sure could be wrong, so here's hoping.
Some of this damage -- particuarly foreign relationships -- may never be righted. Our former friends and former allies gave us a pass during the Biden years, but they were still looking at us sideways. Now that we've gone down this road, I think some serious bridges may be burned. I'd think it would take at least two presidential cycles for us to get some of our reputation back.
OR, this is just who and what we are. The "ugly Americans". Aggressive, boorish, ignorant. I'm pretty much resigned to that, too. We'll see.

Ice didn't begin with masks off and then start wearing them after they began their snatch and grabs at courthouses, schools, churches, basketball games, home depots, farms....etc....they wore them and used unmarked vans from the get go....
The joy your side gets from the cruelty ICE exerts so publicly is kinda disheartening to see for me.
Why could Obama, without all the ICE reality tv showmanship (with Fox only allowed by Ice side filming them and their visible to anyone's eye, thuggery) be able to deport millions of illegal aliens, without anyone knowing, without all the drama, and without all the damn money.
Every illegal deported by Obama on average costed us tax payers via ICE, $14,000 for each one...and I admit when it came to light that it cost us $14,000 to do so...I thought it was an outrageous amount, I thought the deportation should have been able to cost less.
Under the Trump admin, it is costing us tax payers on average by ICE $70,000 for each one deported. All this showmanship grab off the streets or farms etc. thuggery on display, is costing us an awful lot to do this way, not only in the money to deport, but in a respect we once had on the world stage for our constitution and protections for all on our soil, including due process....who the heck from a foreign country ever want to vacation here again? A whole tourist industry is in the toilet, from this and Trump's illegal tariff games.
It's done in such a cruel, Gestapo type, papers please, visibly whisked off the streets type of way...and then sent to detainment camps, NOT concentration camps, but it has the same playbook... Of making it okay to just sweep people off the streets, as publicly as possible, with even cameras rolling for later propaganda on the news, because they are people you hate, you treat as not human, you think don't belong among you, you think are getting help that you don't get etc etc etc...much like Germans were trained to think about the Jews.
My concern and fear is if we let this become just a normal every day thing and not be disgusted by this happening this way...then the next group grabbed and detained without due process could be citizens that you are taught and trained to hate.

You hit the nail on the head, but let me add Trump could not have done it without the backing of this crooked to the hilt ...Republican lead Congress, who is back stabbing those, who under the Constitution, they represent... by their relinquishing of their Congressional power and constitutional duties, and given them all to ONE man in the Executive branch....a supposedly separate branch! Boy this is depressing to see... what is unfolding.
And it could not have been done, without the abuse of the shadow docket in the supreme court.

I find it fascinating the cult which wounded 140 police officers (Blue Lives Matter, my ass) on January 6 has the ******* balls to call a protest an "insurrection".

Over the last year there have been 8 ICE agents injured in attacks in Portland. There have been no deaths. Two officers were injured in an attack in July; both were hospitalized for minor inures. Local Portland Police and local federal agents have made a number of arrests.
It is very unlikely the Guard will do anything but attract protestors from around the county.

Actually the violent left wing crackpot fanatics are attacking the ICE officials.
Trump has a duty to protect the ICE officials.
Attacking ICE is an insurrection.

There is big difference in throwing rocks at ICE agents and attempting the overthrow the government. The DOJ, tried to prosecute Jan 4th rioters with insurrection but that failed as will insurrection prosecutions of protestors who attacked ICE agent.
Portland is referred to as a city where free speech is protected, largely due to its identity as a sanctuary city and a history of supporting peaceful protests. When protests become violent, the police focus on arresting the perpetrators rather than shutting down the protest.
Portland ranks 74th in violent crime in our 100 largest cities. It's homicide rate is down 50% this year. Portland is not just a safe city but beautiful place to live.
As usually, Trump verbal attacks on the city are lies and self serving
His duty is to work with the State, and have local law enforcement take care of ALL domestic crime or have his federal domestic law enforcement join local to help, NOT the Military....under our Constitution, and the Law....the Posse Comitatus Act.
Our Constitution goes as far as prohibiting the federal government to even have a Standing Army from their fear of a too powerful federal government over the Sovereign States...they could have a Navy to protect from foreign invasion and Militia under each State Governor that the President can borrow from the states in a wartime situation against a foreign invasion. (Don't ask me how we got to 4 branches of the military?)
