America has been a very capitalist country for a very long time. That means the U.S. Government's "Collusion" with industry is absolutely normal for America. "What's good for business is good for America". Find yourself another boogie man!
I agree with you that collusion between business and industry is unfortunately the norm for the US, as it is for a lot of the world. However, those who advocate for freer markets would prefer that to be less the case.
No, Trump is not going to magically turn the social fabric of America into a birth right based society. America has been changing into a fascist birth right society since at least the 1980s. Trump (and Musk) are the final nail in the coffin. Wealthy, mostly white, Americans have been born into wealth and without needing to earn or achieve anything.
Most white people are working class, just like most other groups. While it is true that whites make up a significant portion of the elite, whites are also the majority of the population overall, so it makes sense that they would be the majority of the elite as well. The vast majority of whites were not born into wealth, at least by First World standards. If you want to say that most white Americans are rich compared to the average person in the world, that's true, but that's also true for all other groups of Americans.
They believe they are entitled to the standard of living their parents gave them - A new royalty based on inheritance. It's been estimated that as much as 80% of all wealth is inherited. Now we have the Trump, Musk, RFK Jr. triad - all of which INHERITED THE MAJORITY OF THEIR WEALTH. They have no regard for hard working people - Hell Trump won't even pay the people that work for him half the time.
It's funny that you mention the transfer of wealth by generation. Regardless of race, each successive generation of Americans lived better than the generation before them up until the Boomers. The Boomers were the first generation to not transfer as much of their wealth to their progeny. Not surprisingly, Gen X and Millennials were among the first Americans to not be substantially wealthier than their parents. Gen Z is following the same trend. So, if you want to bitch about inheritance, take it up with the Boomers. Admittedly, Trump is a Boomer himself.
I do find it funny that you say RFK Jr. has no regard for hard working people. He's pretty far left on a lot of issues. The only reason Trump brought him into the fold is because they agree on health-related issues.
Most of the senior leadership at all levels of industry gained their positions thru inherited wealth and social connections.
At the highest levels, it is a club most of the time. I'll give you that. That has less to do with any economic system and more to do with human nature. Humans are social animals, and this results in cronyist behavior. Cronyism is only magnified in centrally planned economies, however.
Monarchies and Fascist societies have one and only one oligarchy. Competing Oligarchs are eliminated. The U.S. usually has thousands of oligarchs, but with Trump (like Stalin & Putin), there will be only two types of oligarchs - Trump loyalists and dead.
That's funny. During Trump's first term, that didn't happen. Why would it this time?
The hard-working achievers and productive people are needed in every society, but they will never enjoy socio-economic mobility like they historically have had in the U.S. To be in the upper crust of society, you must be born into it or marry into it. Just like monarchies throughout history.
BTW - The only difference between Fascism and Communism is which lies they choose to promote their tyranny.
Despite the cronyism within US society, we still have higher economic mobility than a lot of the world. We are nowhere near as oligarchal as most of the developing world, for example. And plenty of the First World is more oligarchal as well.
