I hope Newsom and that lady Mayor, keep their sh*t together, and keep the protests peaceful. If not, I hope he has the balls to use his National Guard, in their trained civil disturbance role. I have always thought Governors should make use of the state Guard for this purpose, in coordination with local city officials. Not doing so, was a big mistake during the Floyd protests. I participated in one of these week long deployments back in 78 or 79, Operation Firebird, in Memphis, and that was under orders from a Democrat Governor, supporting a Democrat Memphis Mayor. Guardsmen were patrolling, handling security, manning the fire truck and protecting infrastructure. The unit I was with, had also been activated during the King riots, a few years earlier. Both times, that unit was one with the live ammo, enforcing and restoring peace when Guardsmen manning the fire trucks came under fire.

Did you see, where Governor of Texas us mobilizing 5,000 Guardsmen? I am not sure what he is expecting, but 5,000 troop is about 2 brigades. Whatever it is, that should handle it.

I didn't know he had used them during Covid. I wonder what the heck they did? I could understand medical units for that type of emergency, along with support units. Those people can set up an operating hospital in nothing flat.
