Trump Admin Saves Jobs, Kicks 1500 Non-English-Speaking Truckers Off the Road

Actually this doesn't square with ADA (Americans with disabilities act) where those that don't speak English (but speak American sign language) can get a CDL.
Then they can effectively communicate like the regs require, Gene.
Would that include the mute, and hard of hearing truck drivers?
Nope. Part of the physical is a measurement of how well one hears normal talk at a certain distance behind them.

No, it doesn't... but it DOES address your manifested contempt for the Working Man.

It was YOU that raised that issue as a sidebar... therefore, you must rc[rvy countering feeback related TO that sidebar.

You're totally avoiding the obvious question of making English the official language.

What level of English qualifies?

4th grade, 6th grade, 8th grade, 12th grade.

Newspapers used to be printed at the 4th grade level (up to the 1990's).

That will be fine.

4th grade reading level?

Not since they invented moveable type.

They found a mean grade score of 7.81 (eighth month of the seventh grade). About one-third read at the 2nd to 6th-grade level, one-third at the 7th to 12th-grade level, and one-third at the 13th–17th grade level.

A study in 1947 by Melvin Lostutter showed that newspapers were generally written at a level five years above the ability of average American adult readers.

Well, you just declared America off limits to foreign tourists.

Congratulations. We don't need their money, right?
Even thinking that our first responders or ANYONE should be multilingual is a new thing. It didn't happen prior to the 70s and certainly not before the 60s. Tourists got along just fine.

Some cities, like El Paso, TX, require 911 call-takers to be bilingual.

In New York City, where over 200 languages are spoken each day, the NYPD is proficient in 75 languages—including multiple Chinese dialects, Hebrew, Polish, Turkish, and Urdu.

In the absence of being able to speak a patient’s home language, first responders use a variety of technology and material tools to quickly assess emergency situations and begin providing service. Some such resources include training booklets, picture flashcards, interactive mobile apps, and live telephonic interpreter services.

No they didn't.

in 2013 the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) stopped requiring that all CDL applicants pass a hearing test.

We were talking about the whisper test which is still in place.

Nobody has mentioned any exemptions, or posted any.

I posted the DOT regs........:3:

NYPD does not have officers proficient in 75 languages. They have officers from backgrounds that speak one non English language. NYPD uses Language Line.

Which is no argument for truck drivers on US highways to not speak English. Truck drivers need to be able to communicate with first responders anywhere. They need to be able to communicate with the general public, anywhere.

And, not some cities. El Paso is the only city that requires 911 dispatchers to speak English and Spanish. Even San Diego does not.

No locality should. This is the United States, speak American English or work where you can be understood.
