If Gay Pride Parades were adults-only events, held strictly in cities that have no children under 18, I'd say they should go for it if they want to. Its a free country. But as long as kids are allowed in San Francisco, this kind of shit should not be allowed there

It's very common for people to live with mental disorders for years and then something happens that brings it all to the surface. In almost all cases of transgender it makes it appears at young age often before puberty. The child may or may not adapt. Those that can't end up in some form of therapy. Those that can adapt do in various ways such as cross dressing, engaging in homosexual relationships, assuming the role of their gender or even totally rejecting their sexuality. However, at some point in their lives something happens and they find themselves having to confront the same problem they had as child and adaption does not work for them.

However, even knowing that gender cannot be changed, therapy is used as encouragement that gives false hope that it can. Keep feeding kids with hormones and telling them Cinderella is real, instead of facing them with reality. Once they face the reality on their own, and realize there are no unicorns, what's left for them?

Facing the reality of the mismatch of one's gender and sex is exactly what counseling and psychotherapy attempted to accomplish for years with poor results. They then attempted to modify gender so it matched the person's sex, with only slightly better results. Medical Science in the 70's offered transgender people a way to alter their sexual characteristic in a way that they would resemble the functions socially associated with their identified gender. This has been the most successful treatment but it certainly falls short of a true match between sex and gender.

Gender refers to the ideas and expectations that a culture has about a certain sex.
Gender Identity is a person’s perception of their gender. It is independent of their biological sex; rather, it is how a person feels and how they want to present themselves.

I've been to one gay pride parade. I thought it was bit boring. There was absolutely nothing obscene and nothing that would shock most young kids today. However, there are hundreds if not thousands of gay pride parades and marches all over the world. There are probably some that are X rated.

I would say the Chicago Gay Pride Parade is more typical than that depicted above.

There are many people that can cope with a mismatch between their sex and gender. These people do not have a mental disorder because they cope with this mismatch. They may cross dress, adopt mannerism of the opposite sex, or even pose as the opposite sex. However, there are many people who can't cope. The mismatch between their gender and sex is insurmountable.
