The blaming of (generations later)people who had nothing to do with slavery, sounds more like cowardly revenge to me.
I have mixed feeling about this reparations thing so God may also. Many families built their wealth on slavery and that wealth has gotten passed on through generations down to this day. That doesn't seem just. Slaves that were brought to this country probably lost some material wealth or as least some possessions and/or land that wouldn't get passed to their heirs. That doesn't seem just either. Whites everywhere profited by racism that kept blacks from competing with them on an equal footing or directly providing cheap labor. That also doesn't seem just. Right up until recently blacks were prevented from attending college ensuring they would never get the jobs an education required.
I'd love to see these injustices erased but I can't imagine any realistic way of determining who owes what to who. Probably the best we can do is off the disadvantaged a hand up (which I think we're attempting to do). Maybe being less opposed to affirmative action is all the reparations required.
