Too much of America was built off slavery and I think God is punishing us for it

Sugar farming and a lot of other aspects of industry that boomed America in those early decades were heavily aided by slavery. It allowed to America to grow immensely very quickly. America is a total mess now and I think this (along with turning our backs on God) is partly punishment from God for the sins of our past.

Black lives matter.

The blaming of (generations later)people who had nothing to do with slavery, sounds more like cowardly revenge to me.

Farming before the industrial revolution was hard. Times were different. Slavery has been a part of the Human condition longer than it has not. Farming was nearly all the South had. Of course what grew in the America's was institutionalized slavery where an entire race was subjugated and treated not as humans but as property. Their children were treated as property as well.

Blaming our problems on some supernatural being will not solve the problems.

Your life matters.

The entire world ran on slavery before this country was founded.....Europe and Africa brought african slaves here...and there was slavery among the indians here before the Europeans arrived.......slavery ended with the rise of Christianity and the WEst.....and guns....

You might have a point if such a being existed.

I have mixed feeling about this reparations thing so God may also. Many families built their wealth on slavery and that wealth has gotten passed on through generations down to this day. That doesn't seem just. Slaves that were brought to this country probably lost some material wealth or as least some possessions and/or land that wouldn't get passed to their heirs. That doesn't seem just either. Whites everywhere profited by racism that kept blacks from competing with them on an equal footing or directly providing cheap labor. That also doesn't seem just. Right up until recently blacks were prevented from attending college ensuring they would never get the jobs an education required.

I'd love to see these injustices erased but I can't imagine any realistic way of determining who owes what to who. Probably the best we can do is off the disadvantaged a hand up (which I think we're attempting to do). Maybe being less opposed to affirmative action is all the reparations required.

Water under the bridge, blame in today's generations for actions of past generations is a cowardly act suitable of a progressive socialist
