He was trying to make Germany great again.
That is an asshole statement.
Is it?
yes. only an asshole would make, or defend that statement.
Why's that? It's exactly what Hitler was trying to do. Do you deny it? Have you read history?
the other poster was obviously trying to conflate mass genocide with a platform of trade policy and deportations.
a person that would conflate the two, is using the mass genocide of millions of innocents for a cheap partisan point.
such a person is a vile asshole and anyone that would support them in that action, is also a vile asshole.
are you done playing stupid now?
I think you read it wrong. They weren't trying to conflate the policies of Trump with Hitler. They were highlighting a very accurate similarity between the way both leaders used populism and nationalism to gain power. MAGA appeals to people who feel like our leaders (specifically, the Democrats) have let us get pushed around by other countries. This was exactly the situation with Hitler's Germany.
plenty of nations have been pushed around by other countries. not every leader that has pushed back against that, is a fucking Hitler.
Now who's playing dumb? It's not pushing back that makes Trump similar to Hitler - it's the populism and nationalism.
nationalism is a massively widespread force. smearing someone who feels it, because a long time ago, far away, other people felt it and did bad shit, is the act of an asshole.
this line of argument is, at best, fucking stupid and at worse completely vile.
Nah - it's a valid comparison. It's not saying that Trump is the same kind of leader as Hitler. He clearly doesn't have an agenda or some score to settle in the way Hitler did. But he IS using the same tactics and that's worth noting. We need to be wary.
1. you are that one that brought up the "push back point". i agree it was a stupid point.
2. appealing to nationalism, is not the "same kind of tactics". if anything, the use of street thugs, like antifa, workign with the local political leaders, is more chilling.
Meh. unsupported denials. I suspect you know better and are just playing the partisan. But maybe not.
Nationalism and populism are dangerous political tools. Like most forms of collectivism, they convince people that they can elevate their lives by joining a group.
