I noticed today the sun's already pretty far to the south.

If you were at the North Pole, you would have just seen the sun set in the last few days, and you wouldn't see it again for half a year.

On the other hand, if you were on the South Pole, you would have just seen the Sun rise, and it wouldn't set for half a year.
