Tokyo vs NYC

NYC was also targeted by the Chinese, Tokyo was not. Infected Chinese were not allowed to travel within China, but were allowed to travel to every other large city in the world, NY, London, Rome, Paris, etc. and look at the result in those cities.

And you have support for this claim?

Of course he doesn't. It's a right wing conspiracy theory.

NYC has has 11,000 covid deaths. Tokyo, the worlds largest and most dense city has has 93. NYC is locked down. Tokyo was never locked down. Both have had the virus for the same amount of time. Why is NYC's death rate 250 times higher than Tokyo's?

Could it be that the Chinese targeted NYC?

You can't realistically compare the two populations for a multitude of reasons.

what are those reasons? both are big cities, both are crowded, both were exposed to the Chinese virus. One had disasterous results the other did not. Can't wait to hear your reasons why that happened.

I'm obviously speculating, since I have not seen any conclusively study of comparison, but the Japanese are a homogeneous and very disciplined society. They have better health out comes in general due to healthier lifestyles overall. They take better care of their elderly. They have much lower crime rates and one of the highest living standards in the world.

Compare that to New York City, which is a melting pot of the entire planet. They have a massively diverse population with different cultures and social norms. New Yorkers make poor lifestyle choices: they don't eat right, they don't take care of themselves, have higher rates of crime. There are parts of NYC that look like a war zone in the Middle East.

To try and compare New York to Tokyo is simply apples and oranges. Also take into consideration that a lot of influenza type pandemics have hit Asia far more often than other parts of the world which is why you see so many people in Asian countries wearing face masks even when there isn't a pandemic spreading. Those societies are more prepared for this kind of thing, whereas NYC was set up for the brink of disaster.

the chinese travel restrictions/permissions has been proven for weeks. They allowed people from Wuhan to travel to every city in the world, but would not allow them to travel within China. How do you explain that?

...different culture...Japanese are known for cleanliness and discipline..didn't they have to deal with and have experience with SARS/etc? that was in Asia

Definitely some truth there. What is also interesting is that the homeless in LA and SFO have not come down with the virus. Could living on, and shitting in, the streets create an immunity?

Ethnic diversity is a factor in pandemic spread?

Well, to start with, Japan is a mask wearing society. Many Japanese people wore masks even before this was a thing.

Japan also kicked in containment measures in January, as opposed to the US, which didn't do anything until March.

The answer is one has good governance and other doesn’t.

Communism. Chinese citizens have never been able to travel freely within the country.

Yeah, and drug use is almost unheard of. They don't have children out of wedlock. They don't engage in extremely risky lifestyles generally speaking.

They also have far less murder, and rape, because they actually believe in morals of right and wrong.

And they generally work really hard. They are not known for sitting on their butts, waiting for mommy government to bring her tits over to suckle. They get after it, like an adult man should.

And they don't have a national obesity problem.

So I agree. Very different culture. We could learn a lot from them.

you say they were locked down...he says they were not...which is it?

He's an idiot.

Here's an article that explains how Japan controlled this thing, by doing the stuff Trump refused to do.

Responding to the coronavirus pandemic, the Japanese government closed all schools two weeks before the spring holidays at the end of March and canceled all public events. But shops and restaurants could remain open, and few Japanese employees decided to work from home.

Experts at the Health Ministry have repeatedly rejected such criticism, saying they were looking for spikes in COVID-19 cases in order to contain the virus, rather than conducting widespread tests. When the epidemic broke out in a primary school on the northern island of Hokkaido, for example, authorities closed all schools in the prefecture and declared a state of emergency. After three weeks the spread of the virus had been stopped.

Japanese greeting etiquette — a bow instead of a handshake or a kiss on the cheek — has also played a part in slowing the outbreak, as has basic hygiene education taught from an early age.

"Washing our hands, gargling with a disinfectant solution and wearing masks are part of our everyday lives. We don't need coronavirus to teach us that," said a Japanese mother of two. As a result, it was easy for society to switch to anti-infection mode in February when the virus first began to spread. Shops and businesses set up hand sanitizers at the entrance, and it became a civic duty to wear a face mask.

Okay. They are also in a demographic death spiral because no one is making babies... so there's that as well.

And they generally work really hard. They are not known for sitting on their butts, waiting for mommy government to bring her tits over to suckle. They get after it, like an adult man should.

Um, do you really want to compare government social welfare programs in Japan to the United States? Japan has single payer health care. They have government paid for day care.

It should also be pointed out that Japan has essentially been in recession since the 1990's. yes, they make sure everyone has a job, but most of those jobs are subsidized by the government.
