Well, Rand Paul is engaging in outreach and diplomacy. He's not exactly a warhawk.
I think Trump is weary of war for many reasons. It could really hurt his re-election chances unless there is a legitimate, sound reason for such action.
That is WHY I am thinking IF he does start a war with them,he will wait until AFTER he is relected. He has kissed Israels ass ever since being elected so I just dont see him not starting one in his second term.thats too much to hope for having a president that doesnt start a war. Last one we had that didnt was carter.
If war is needed, and that's the word I prefer to use as it should be a last resort; the political impact in his second term would all come down to the magnitude. I think Trump is a dollars and cents guy. He cares about the economy and likes to see macro economic numbers improve, or jobs, etc. His focus on this, dealing with China and the southern border have placed him in an enviable position. The Dems would love to have him go to war as it probably hurts his 90% approval with GOP voters. From what I can tell, people are just really weary of the slightest indication of another Neo-Con government, which is one big reason Conservative/libertarian voters sided with him in the Primaries.
So, if a war was needed and let's say the UK or others help and it's a 1-2 week campaign to cripple Iranian military infrastructure, that is far different than another 15+ year Iraq. I really think he prefers communication and getting results vis a vis Iran walking away from their nuclear ambitions. These are the kinds of wins he prefers and it works out better for everyone.
He's not going to haphazardly go to war with Iran. His approach so far has lead him to so much success and they have a treasure chest for re-election, record numbers. Why? People know he isn't an itchy trigger, among other considerations.
