Thune needs to back Trump down and tell him he must never instruct the Senate on how to act.

No? So, what legitimate consequences are in place if the Senate does not follow Trump's, "Instructions?"

To 'instruct someone' implies that the instructor has the power to enforce it.

Trump cannot enforce to do that which he has no power to prevent.

I don't need my memory, there's a search function here. When Biden limited the dissemination of the FBI reports on his nominees, you did not call him out for interference with the legislature.

He never did, and you can't disprove it.

History much OP? You must have never heard of the Bully Pulpit.

A "bully pulpit" is a conspicuous position that provides an opportunity to speak out and be listened to. This term was coined by United States President Theodore Roosevelt, who referred to his office as a "bully pulpit", by which he meant a terrific platform from which to advocate an agenda. Roosevelt used the word bully as an adjective meaning "superb" or "wonderful", a more common usage at that time.

Since the new Congress has already started it's only fitting that the POTUS-elect use the bully pulpit to his full advantage.

Dude - your own link - it's precedent that the incoming administration limits dissemination of the FBI reports on it's nominees. For obvious reason.
Not to those (Senators) who are investigating whether the nominees are eligible and worthy.

Trump is a quick learner. He knows the mistakes of his first term. He had 4 years to study and set his course. in hindsight if Progs did not play the election system in 2020, you would be done with him now with the flaws of his first administration affecting the second. We need to clean up the excesses. We are a rich nation. We also need to be smarter on how we spend our dollars. This is not something new. There are adherents who have wanted this for many decades.

This is unacceptable executive interference in matters legislative.

Donald Trump’s transition team is insisting that the FBI’s background check on Pete Hegseth, his nominee for Defense Secretary, is not shared more widely. Trump’s team insist that those documents are not made available to rank-and-file senators, following a precedent which they say was set by Biden’s transition after the last election. So far, only senior members of the Senate Armed Services, including chair Roger Wicker and ranking member Jack Reed have been briefed on the FBI’s report about Hegseth, along with some members of the Trump transition team. Yes, precedent is that only Chair of the committee and the minority ranking member are briefed on the FBI investigation.

Yuh got me, pardner. I think it is bad precedent for both parties. https://www.axios.com/2025/01/14/trump-hegseth-confirmation-fbi-background-check

  • Democrats admit the precedent is on the GOP's side. But they say the nature of Hegseth's nomination — including allegations of sexual misconduct that he's denied — at least deserves a conversation.

Are you kidding me? Senate confirmations have nothing to do with their legislative functions. And if xiden can make such requests, so can Trump.

I disagree, it's not bad precedent. These investigations turn up lots of embarrassing stuff that have no bearing on a nominee's ability to do the job, but could be used for partisan purposes simply to publicly embarrass the nominee.

That false allegation of sexual abuse againt Hegseth is good example. Completely cleared, but the scum Democrats are harping on it and harping on it.

The Presidency is about Leadership and the President should be inclined to lead.
The President also controls the Executive Branch ... And the Department of Justice, including the FBI, are under the Executive Branch.

If you are going to try and lecture people about what is acceptable in regard to the Legislative and Executive Authority ...
Try reading the US Constitution ...
