This site the past few weeks has gotten increasingly laggy.

It was extremely odd yesterday, but I'd picked up a virus on Firefox. My other messageboard was whack too. So, Mozilla uninstalled, duckduckgo installed, and everything is fine now.
I'm still ok since clearing cookies and site data earlier today. If you did a reinstall that would do the same thing.

I used to use DDG and found it was slowing everything down.

I've used DDG on my phone for many years now. I haven't seen any problems.

I had slow problems a few years ago, started unplugging extensions and when I did DDG, no more issues.

I'll use it as an alternative to Google for searches but it gets the same results pretty much.

Musk is supposedly developing an alternative to Google. I'd try it.

Either some archiving needs to take place, or you are having issues with one of the - MANY - adbots.
At times it gets unusable.
There is no connection issue as there is no latency when pinging the server when the lagging occurs.
My bet - is one of the adbots is churning and churning.
USMB has obviously been demoted to the low-end servers that struggle to handle the garbage/junk functions.

Sure is a function of downloading.
The failing garbage function keeps re-instantiating objects, clogging the browser side cycle and needs the 'fix' ... server side.

FYI - I cleared cookies and site data and so far it's not slowing.

I'm not buying it: one second, the server responds instantly, a moment later, it takes a minute for the stack to access my request to view my current alerts drop-down list.

I said it crapped out in a post about an hour ago.

You'd think something would be done as this is very well known for months.

Last I heard was a whole bunch of bots since Trump was elected are overflowing the system.

Well everyone hated Trump during 45 and I don't recall these issues.

I see postings have dropped off during the day....... probably from the 'issue'.

Yep.... Probably carrying too much in the archives and there's no doubt that the adware pressure is pulling on the service processor capacities.

OK guys. I did some digging. Essentially the server is being hammered with bots.... most of them are from the AI companies that ignore robots.txt and ai.txt.

We've added some managed challenges if you are coming from These countries.... which is where the bulk of these bots are coming from. There's no other elegant way to stop it... but I don't think we get much legitimate traffic from the following countries:

Code:
(ip.geoip.country eq "VN") or (ip.geoip.country eq "IN") or (ip.geoip.country eq "RU") or (ip.geoip.country eq "BR") or (ip.geoip.country eq "CN") or (ip.geoip.country eq "PK") or (ip.geoip.country eq "SG") or (ip.geoip.country eq "HK")

So, Vietnam, India, Russia, Brazil, China, Pakistan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

After making these changes the amount of traffic on the server and thus the load is much lower.

Yep, a bit of an issue.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one it is happening to. I thought these pain pills I take for my shoulder were just ******* with my perception of time.
Hope the shoulder gets better.

The pain pills would explain a great deal about your "laggy" posts. :laughing0301: :laughing0301: :laughing0301: :laughing0301:
