They force CORE Curruculim and Teachers to teach a Core Test.

The DOE are micromanagers from hell. They arent even in the game. They dont teach. They rule from their thrones in the Cheap Seats Nose Bleed section.

There is no Core Curriculum. Common Core is a set of standards. It is what you want your child to be able to do.

There are standards-based exams for students to demonstrate they meet the standard. but there are no Core tests.

In a few schools that is true. However, for most schools, it is not.

I took Latin in the 8th and 9th grades in the mid 70s. It was an elective. There are many schools that still teach it. I have never heard of a public school that teaches Greek because it is not used anymore.

There was a levy increase on the ballot a few years ago. The teachers cited 3 things why they needed the money. When I pointed out the three things they cited had already been addressed and rendered moot the teachers openly attacked me, told me to leave the state. Teachers despise the taxpayers who fund it all. They feel ENTITLED to MY money.

Federal laws require providing education to students with learning disabilities and prohibit discrimination

I will come to their defense. My daughter probably could not answer some of those questions like that off the top of her head, but she can manage to get electrolyte components for an EV battery from countries all over the world to her battery plant in TN. Let them use their cell phone and I bet they come up with a correct answer.

Kids today do not need to remember "trivia" like we did. When I was in school, I had to memorize mathematical formulas. That always seemed like a waste of time to me because if I have a problem, I am sure I can recognize the formula to work the problem. When I taught, I provided a formula sheet just like the one provided by the SAT and ACT when they finally outgrew the memorization strategy.

I can't tell you how many times those trigonometric identities came in handy in the Navy. [/sarcasm]

Again that never should have been a function of the federal government and, however well intentioned, it did little or nothing to actually improve education anywhere. But get federal government meddling out of education and encourage the local communities to educate their kids, and I'm pretty sure American initiative, innovation, ingenuity, work ethic will put us back on top within a generation or less.

Common Core was never required by the federal government. Many states never adopted it and several others dropped it after the media got a hold of it with their false information.

One of the original reasons for promoting Common Core was actually military families. If you learn certain information in a certain grade, moving your family over Christmas break would not put your child 5 months ahead or behind their classmates. California would be at the same place as Florida and vice versa.

What the Feds do is provide funding for low income communities to get better schools
Special Education is a burden on many schools districts, Dept of Education provides funding.
They also enforce discrimination laws that State and local communities are notorious for violating

All of that is going to continue.
They are not ending the critical needs the DOE did - they are moving that to other departments.
This should actually - INCREASE - the funds because the DOE is no longer taking their cut if it in the form of operating the 4,209 person department.
I would be VERY willing to say - you could do the same functions with half that many people.
