You can be considered dirt road poor here and still own a car and an iPhone. Most folks should travel the world a little to get a better perspective on reality before attempting to pontificate on matters like this. In addition, there a lot of people in America who have lived under dictators and authoritarian regimes around the world, and they will be happy to tell you how unpleasant it is and how thankful they are to be in America, where individual freedom and liberty means everything to them.
