Pipelines can be environmental disasters if they leak or rupture, especially underwater pipelines that are aging, like this one. The pipeline is over sixty years old and goes under the Great Lakes. Imagine if it leaks significantly or ruptures. Based on the articles i've been reading about this after seeing this topic the company responsible doesn't seem very responsible in how they address potential environmental impacts.

Based on the articles that I've been reading about this the concern of the government seems valid. An aging pipeline that is at risk of anchor strikes, ruptures, major leaks, and so on would cause major economic damage to the economy of Michigan, not to mention the huge environmental impact, if something like that happens.
