This iconic centuries-old tree fell —

Agree. The hole through the middle was not a good idea. Another era, when we thought there was no end to the old forest. My father had pictures of him and two of my uncles sitting in the undercut of a very large ceder on the Olympic Peninsula, eating lunch. There is almost no place you can see trees like that, or the forest made of them, on the peninsula now. I have been to one of them, a hard hike in, and walking in moss inches deep, with firs to 8 feet in diameter, and cedars, to 12 feet, is like walking in a cathedral. We did not stop the logging of the old growth forest soon enough.

It had a tunnel carved thru it, so...

I know, but many redwoods in California have tunnels....not a good idea for sure.....some are still alive.

I love the redwoods , so beautiful.

Me too.

The are like...the Pyramids of the tree world in a metaphorical way of speaking ....huge,magnificent....almost eternal.

Amazing!

Make the redwoods a top priority on your bucket list. It is a religious experience. We drove the Tahoe through one of these trees. Bought a redwood seed to plant near great smoky mt, national, park. Might make, history.
