Grand Rapids mulls passing a law making it illegal to call the cops on a minority if it turns out that they weren’t actually doing anything wrong.

Yes, I understand the concern that spawns this bill. But I’m not sure this is the right way to address it.

The charge could result in up to a $500 fine, according to CNN affiliate WOOD.

It's the typical legislative knee jerk reaction, "we have to be seen doing something so the voters think we're doing our jobs". So they often come up with the most inane ideas that many actually believe will work.
Unfortunately it happens all over all too frequently.

It's just another way of saying that a white cop can't arrest or charge a black man - because of person of color.
That should go well for black cops.

So don't call the cops on someone just because they are black. Or because you think your condos are too nice to have black people. Or because you think the pool is too nice to have black people in it.

In other words, don't be a dick.

No it doesn't. It means you can't call the cops on someone for bullshit reasons. If they are breaking the law, the cop can arrest them.

And there are already laws on the books that make this illegal.
Yes, I know there are laws on the books. But that hasn't stopped any "white" cops trying to find something on a black person. Do you think a black cop would stop a black driver speeding down the street....hoping to stop him/her for a drug charge? But only getting cited for speeding? Hmm...

Yeah that's why you can't depend on the cops to protect you.

Everybody needs to pack.

Actually we already have laws that provides the person wrongly accused by citizens of the right to sue for redress or for filing a false statement to the police. It's just harder to prove.
I see what the reasoning is behind it but I don't think it will stand up to legal scrutiny if challenged.

In other words, don't be white and call the cops on a black person for any reason unless you want to run the risk of being prosecuted for a hate crime.

I won't be calling the cops at all, thanks.
That's why we pack.

So if you see someone casing the neighborhood, don't call the cops if he is black -- that's racial profiling.

Worse than that. It's not about police letting black dudes off the hook.

It's about perpetrating a demeaning stereotype about white women. A handful of women across the nation were targeted by media vultures for calling the cops on black people who turned out to be doing nothing illegal.

And now we need a law to prevent white women from continuing their reign of terror.

So what is the problem?....shoot em in the leg and put your mothers diamond in their pocket.....

What if they arent breaking the law but their behavior is suspicious? For example, a black kid is walking through a parking lot and looking into rows of cars.

You would be hard pressed to find examples of people calling the cops on a black person who is merely walking down a sidewalk.

Better than Asian. I'd like a law that says, Colleges can't call the cops on Asians participating in Colleges. Let's see what's happening here, this Asian person that would go down on Zuckerberg like she did in that movie, that only ever promoted student organizations, extra credits, projects, and focus.

The biased race-police relationship law needs to be voted on. It says what the heck do institutions know about anybody, Asian descent, and social cohesion. They want some social color out of anything happening there.

Maybe we blacks should all pack. Because the history of violence against us done by whites tells us that maybe we should be tougher in standing our ground.

Whites commit more larceny, vandalism and theft.

Naw, your murder rate is through the roof because you're all packing already, and killing each other.

Why don't you fools ever post the MANY incidents of *accidental* shootings of kids in the hood as evidence of why we need gun control??

Because the shooters are black, and they are already in gun control zones.

Police: Boy, 13, dies after ‘accidental’ shooting in Englewood
