The senate appropriations committee is meeting, I guess it's time for our weekly emergency funding exercise. Today Susan Collins, the chair, is playing footsie with a secretary from Homeland Security, musing about the flood of illegals in Maine and what they cost. Then she asked him why they didn't ask for more money last session, instead of asking him why they were so inefficient at their job. They want an increase of 2 billion$ this go round, just to aid "asylum seekers" from Ukraine and Gaza. I hears in a few minutes at least 3 times "the system is broken", and that seems to infer a path for "fixing it", which usually involves more taxpayer money. No one seems to know who broke all these systems, but they all agree that more government can fix it.
