Of course the congressman is correct.Online gambling unleashes untold social problems and human suffering.
We have the same issues in the UK where the bookies have bought enough MPs to manage their interests.
Gambling will always exist but we neednt promote it like its a benign activity.

a former nfl commissioner phrased any connection to gambling as an affront to the "integrity of the game."

and, of course, the tragedy of the great pete rose.

It's not really any of my business how others wish to waste their money but gambling will turn the NFL on par with the WWE at some point.

People really don't bet on WWE matches, at least not that much compared to basketball, football and soccer.

Tonko is a hypocrite, Tommy. He talks about cutting down on gambling, but has no plan to pare back government spending to make up for the loss of gambling revenue to Uncle Sam.

Yes; it's bad and getting worse. Terrible addiction.

Turn?

The NFL is a sports entertainment enterprise governed by the same rules as pro wrestling and roller derby.

The players are legit, but outcomes are controlled by the NFL via the officials.

People bet on nearly everything, including pro wrestling.

The NFL isn't legitimate competitive sport, but sports entertainment.

By its own legal definition.

There can be a pattern at WWE matches that leads up to the pay per views as wrestlers that are going to meet at the pay per view may meet before it at other shows at times with other wrestlers included. So, you see who wins or loses at those events and perhaps it's the opposite at the pay per view. Not 100% of course. We might end up having matches that are fixed, double fixed as there is money to be made.

You will never ban betting on sport. But you can stop glamourising it. Their TV ads make it seem a fun choice but these people are as bad as a mafia.

You don't get it Tommy. The government gets a taste of the action, so of course they are going to continue to promote it.

People who bet on wrestling must be trump voters. Thisck as shit.

And so it starts.......................

It is an absolute slap in the face to every player who has ever put on a helmet, laced up cleats and marched onto the field to battle for a victory, because a bunch of folks in a conference room in Texas decided their sacrifice was not as important as the Las Vegas line on a potential playoff matchup.

No one rips off more people gambling than a government entity.
State run lotteries are a tax on the poor.
The state has a vested interest in keeping their monopoly on gambling.

Lotteries are a tax on people bad at math, but I play because I like the action, and $32 a week isn't a dent in my income.

Back in the day even the mobsters didn't take a 40% vig like the state lotteries do with the daily numbers.

Of course a demafasict wants to tell people what they can and can’t do with their money.

Well, if Congress makes insider trading legal and information available for all besides themselves, then the need to gamble recklessly would reduce.
