It's affecting raptors and many other wild birds, too. Songbirds don't appear to be affected as much, based on what I've heard, read.What other birds have to be dealt with? It doesn't seem odd that this flu is only affecting egg laying chickens?
The issue this country's poultry/egg industry faces is its reliance on mega-large production facilities. So when there is an outbreak, very large numbers of birds are culled. Canada relies on smaller laying farms and is not affected as much which is why their egg prices are not skyrocketing.
Factory farming can be efficient until there's an unexpected wrench in the gears...
