It's being built with private funds but maintenance and festivities are all on US taxpayers as long as it lasts. That's why stopping it now is the best thing that could happen. Put all the money to pay down the national debt , not create more debt. Then we'd all be better off.

Trump is adding to the white house. The east wing was built during WW2 to have space to work during war.

The East Wing was built in 1902. It was partially demolished during the war, so that a bunker could be built underneath. it was replaced according to McKimMeade and White’s original plan, with the addition of offices on the second floor.
