More than 30 army chiefs among Washington's closest allies met in Paris on March 11 without their US counterparts, seeking to take on more responsibility over the war in Ukraine given President Donald Trump's unpredictability and rapprochement with Moscow.

The closed-door gathering of 34 army chiefs, including Nato alliance and EU members as well as Japan and Australia, was a rare - and possibly unprecedented - convening without the US.

The talks aimed in part to assess options and capabilities to guarantee Ukraine's security in the event of a ceasefire, including potential European peacekeepers, and to maintain Kyiv's long-term military strength.

"The political message is we can do it together and without the United States, but it's clear there are things we can't do and the problem with Russia is we need to have deterrence," said a European diplomat involved in the talks, adding that the meeting was largely pre-planning.

A military official said the US was not invited, in an intended signal that Europe and other partners could take their responsibilities given Mr Trump has distanced himself from allies.

It would also appear that economics and world history are among the many courses you failed when in school.

A reminder that in the past century Europe has started TWO World Wars that the USA has reluctantly been dragged into and had to finish, at huge expense in lives and treasure of this nation. And with little real thanks and appreciation from those nations that started the conflicts/mess, nor compensation for what it cost$ the USA to end and fix the situation/mess they created.

Part of that cost for WW2 was in form of weapons, vehicles, food, supplies and other aid termed Lend-Lease which only a couple small nations ever paid back their share or returned the "lent/leased" in good condition.

At the end of WW2 the USA founded and funded the United Nations as a means to prevent future conflicts/wars, but the other members went ahead and continued such anyway. -Note that most of these were in former colonies and possessions of those European nations.

It is also to those European nations that we can thank for bringing the ages old scourge of slavery to the New World/Americas, with assistance from some African and Islamic partners. BTW, Islamic theology and dogma still support the institution of slavery. And yes, some of the Native American cultures/tribes also engaged slavery before the Europeans arrived. It should be noted that the USA in our founding document/Constitution started the first steps to eliminate slavery in this nation, and was also one of the first of the world to make such official, see Article. I., Section. 9., paragraph one.

For nearly 80+ past years, since 1945, "Uncle Sugar Daddy" has been the World's "policeman" and "fixer" and it is long past the time for the World to accept responsibility, and cost$, for the many messes and injustices it has continued to create. Consider this a form of 'tough love' and finally time for the World to grow up.

This isn't "isolationism" or "indifference" involved here, more like fatigue, and a step back with pause, while letting the world put it's decades of complaints and 'backseat driving' about the USA aside and show how they can do better.

(Many of us are skeptical and expect we will have to bail out the World again in the near future. But we hope and wish not.)
