Mayor Brandon Scott annouces crime in Baltimore continues to drop
On Monday, Mayor Brandon Scott announced that Baltimore is continuing to see a historic reduction in crime.
Compared to 2024, the city has seen a 23.6% drop in homicides and a 23.4% drop in non-fatal shootings, the fewest number of homicides in the first five months of any year on record.
Through the first five months of 2024, Baltimore recorded 71 homicides and 166 non-fatal shootings. Through the first five months of 2025, Baltimore has recorded 51 homicides and 126 non-fatal shootings.
The number of homicides seen in the first five months of 2025 are the fewest recorded of any year on record, per the Mayor's Office.
In April, Baltimore recorded only five homicides, the fewest ever recorded in a single month.
Officials say Baltimore has also seen a drop in auto thefts and robberies, with auto thefts being down 33% and robberies being down 22%.

These black mayors, unlike pasty white Donald Trump, understand the root causes of the problem. They have moved to create the things that address that root cause. The progress would be quicker if the government provided the resources necessary to fix the decades' worth of damage due to the root cause. But since Trump is part of the root cause, along with the arrogance that comes with it, we see a non-solution being implemented that will only make things worse.

I disagree. You did not see a President calling half the country vermin, and other names while declaring they are trying to "destroy" America. None of that existed pre-Trump and Biden never used that language for broad swaths of the populace, nor did the Bushes, Obama, nor Clinton. Their criticism was specific to political leaders. Even Lincoln during the vicious Civil War avoided demonizing southerners in public remarks.
The outliers were:
- Andrew Johnson (Post Civil War): In the Reconstruction era, he accused Radical Republicans (and their supporters in the North) of plotting to destroy the Union and take away the rights of white Southerners. His language toward abolitionists and Black political leaders was extremely hostile.
- Woodrow Wilson (WWI): He promoted the idea that “disloyal” Americans (German-Americans or antiwar activists) were dangerous traitors.
- Trump (Realtime): His framing of nearly half the country’s voters as vermin and radical extremists in nearly every speech aligned with people who “hate America” has been the most sustained and public version of divisiveness in at least 50 years.
- Richard Nixon (1970's): While he didn’t directly call antiwar protesters traitors in official addresses, his “silent majority” speeches painted them as harmful to the nation, and his private comments were far harsher.

Honestly you guys go on and on about it with a blind spot so I accumulated them over the last year so you can be fully informed. Middle aged white men are the primary offenders and tend to lean heavily toward the GOP. You can be sure that there are some the other way but it is a number less than half. I suspect it has to do with the percent of middle aged white dudes being lower. Not sure. Feel free to start a research project on it although the government doesnt fund studies anymore. Blame DOGE.
