They didn't vote against him. He might've been their second pick but they had to choose among 17 candidates who to vote for. That does not mean they voted against the other 16.Uh...guy. Where did you come up with the 17 million AGAINST him? Was there a check box as "for" and a check box as "against" on the ballot?
When you vote for somebody it doesn't necessarily mean that your vote is against somebody else. It is not like "if you are not with us you are against us."
