Mel Stride to stand in Conservative leadership contest
Former work and pensions secretary announces candidacy, saying Tories have ‘lost the trust of the British people’www.theguardian.com
Oh lord it is going to take till november , having started well before last xmas. Several people have been voted outand it really is an ugly bug ball.
None of these divisive people are capable of leading the party to victory. The next tory PM is still at Oxford. They are unelectable. They are all familiar despised faces from a despised regime that was booted out.
And yet they havent learned anything. They are offering up the same failed policies as before. Maybe they should reflect on why they were booted out. Let Tommy spell it out.
It was everything but mainly a toxic mix of cruelty and incompetence.
Regarding the election none of them has sufficiemt stature to command support of their party. A few of them should have been kicked out by Sunak but he lacked the spine. We will have another leadership tussle before the next election.
The current lot are already sniping at each other so it looks like entertainment incoming.
Its amazing that they have been given a thrashing and yet they are likely to elect someone who wants more of the same. That's what politics is, keep saying you're listening to the people, all the while telling the people what you hear is what you've been saying all along

Majors lot did the same when they were routed. How many dud leaders did they have before cameron ?
They are dumb. PR would prevent any tory govt ever. The tories are even dumber because they want PR now.Thing is they know they'll do what they did last time, elect people who can't win until people get fed up of Labour. Once things have been fixed, people will start wanting less taxes... so the Tories will offer that and get in.
Labour are stupid though. With PR the left would have won every election except 2019 (and lost that by less than 1,000 votes), but Labour prefer to be in second place and think they're relevant than have to lose supporter.

Ive seen pundits working out their seat numbers if we had run on PR. I dont think they are doing policy at the moment. Neither party would back it when in power.Well, it wouldn't prevent any Tory govt ever, things would change. But I haven't seen the Tories say they want PR, just Reform who had it in the "manifesto" or whatever they called it. But they never spoke about it once during the election.

The libs had the best chance in 2010 but we rejected it.
i often thought it was a good thing the current system because it kepy the nutters out. The last few years disproved that. Im all for it now.
In Wales we have PR nd you vote for your choice. In England they dont and you vote for keeping out the tory. Wales is better.
I couldnt explain the Welsh system. It seems set up to ensure a few token tories get in.The UK rejected AV, not PR.
PR is a better system. Germany doesn't have its crazies getting in (since they put a 5% requirement to get PR seats) and Denmark (with a 2% cut off) also doesn't have crazies getting in.

Don't forget they have the MSM on their side to propagate the Tory propaganda but at times they are very subtle about it, unless its the likes of Times news and GB news they are just propagandists for rightwing nutters masquerading as journalists, since the fascists kicked off in Southport i have not seen or heard Farage. Its amazing that they have been given a thrashing and yet they are likely to elect someone who wants more of the same.

The results are ok. They broadly reflect where Wales is at. I dont think anyone understands it fully.By the looks of it Wales has FPTP with a regional aspect that is like PR, but not really.
Labour got 39% in the constituencies, 36% in the regional, and got 30 out of 60 seats.
Seems... like it doesn't work.

Tories get a few token seats. They didnt get any in a FPTP election. Its working well.Well, they don't. Only 1/3rd of people voted Labour, and Labour got half the seats.
