Warren Buffett calls Trump’s tariffs a tax on goods, says ‘the Tooth Fairy doesn’t pay ‘em’

Legendary investor Warren Buffett made a rare comment on President Donald Trump’s tariffs, saying punitive duties could trigger inflation and hurt consumers.

“Tariffs are actually, we’ve had a lot of experience with them. They’re an act of war, to some degree,” said Buffett, whose conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway has large businesses in insurance, railroad, manufacturing, energy and retail. He made the remarks in an interview with CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell for a new documentary on the late publisher of the Washington Post, Katharine Graham.

“Over time, they are a tax on goods. I mean, the Tooth Fairy doesn’t pay ’em!” Buffett said with a laughter. “And then what? You always have to ask that question in economics. You always say, ‘And then what?’”

Leave it to Warren to cut through the BS in a folksy kind of way. He's not an overtly political guy. I suspect he'd have more to say about trump if he was. His simple expression making it clear what we have known for a while. trump does not understand the ramifications of tariffs on US consumers. Meaning the foundational thesis for his economic plan is based on ignorance.

Poliitically Buffet has always been a left wing lunatic

So another profound revelation for libs. Lets see if they can apply this new knowledge on raising taxes on americans and who pays. Lol.

You've missed the point. The guy you voted for doesn't understand how his #1 economic tool works. He based his entire economic plan on a fallacy.

I agree they are a tax on goods. Most people know that, weird you didn’t

Trump has a childish, naïve, 19th Century perception of tariffs – they don’t ‘bring back jobs,’ they don’t reduce costs, and they don’t intimidate exporting countries.
The hell they don't. As soon as we started telling countries, that are taking advantage of us, that a reciprocal tariff is coming they act like they are on, Let's Make a Deal and The Price is Right.
Trump must be doing something right, they are booking appointments to meet with him to work things out that are amenable to fairness for both countries, not just theirs.
We have a President that is finally working in our best interest. Let him...:102:
