There are a lot of movies and TV series called The Stranger, including three on Netflix alone.

The trailer for this 2022 movie below should help you find the one I am reviewing here. It stars Joel Edgerton whom you have seen in Zero Dark Thirty.

In 2003, a 13 year old boy went missing in Queensland, Australia, kicking off one of the largest police investigations in that country's history. This movie is about that investigation and how the killer was finally caught eight years later.

The family of the boy was opposed to the making of this film, not wanting to be re-traumatized or seeing someone making a profit from it.

However, this movie is very tastefully and remarkably done. It's not "crime porn" as some call these kinds of films like the ones about Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer.

All of the names have been changed, including that of the victim, the perpetrator, and the police. And the victim's age was changed from 13 to 11.

It is amazing the lengths to which the police went to catch and convict this guy. Very elaborate.

For non-Australians, it is helpful to know a "demountable" is a portable office. See here: https://www.constructionsales.com.au/items/transportable-building-category/
