Social Security is not a budget item. No single political party or politician can do a fucking thing to modify anyone's benefits. Its unconstitutionality is the citizens' best protection for continued benefits. The Left NEVER STOPS TRYING to convince people that Republicans are after their SS and Medicare; it is simply a transparent lie.

All DOGE is doing now is pointing out that the SS Administration is inefficient and error-prone. Musk cannot stop anyone's check from going out; all he can do is point to anomalies so that the adults in the room can either correct them, or stop paying someone who either does not exist or is scamming the system.

The WORST CASE scenario for Social Security is that Congress will allow the "trust fund" to run dry, in which case the system will revert to a pay-as-you-go proposition, and benefits will be reduced by 20% or so, across the board. But this will never happen. And when Congress does address the shortfall, it will be done on a bi-partisan basis, not by the party that has a microscopic majority in Congress at that moment.

The current budget that the GOP just passed out of committee (and the House?) cannot be met without drastic cuts to Medicare/Medicaid. So yeah

I'm against people scamming the system. I have decades long history of working with close to minimum wage employees and I can't tell you how many times someone was filing a disability claim, claiming they can't work due to some reason - while they were still working for me. Their claims would go on for months and most of them SS finally honored and these people worked for me the entire time up until their claims were approved. At that time they officially were found not to be able to work, even though they worked for me for months.

On another case, my ex-wife, who I give a lot of credit to, had chronic back pain she was seeing the doctor for. He offered her a letter to file and claim disability so she wouldn't have to work anymore for the rest of her life and she refused because even though she did have pain a lot, she felt she could still manage it and work.
