Senate Leader Thune throws cold water on filibuster change in push for voter-ID bill

Key Points
  • Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., on Tuesday said he supported the SAVE America Act, but that there is not enough support in the Senate to change the filibuster and clear a path for the controversial bill.
  • The House is expected to vote this week on the legislation, which would require people to prove their citizenship to register to vote and show ID at the ballot box.
  • GOP hardliners have called for a return to the “standing filibuster,” which requires Congress members to be physically present and talking on the Senate floor to delay legislation.

Yeah, like the Senate would do anything to save America. 😐

They are all on the same team, and it isn’t team USA....Why isn't "Uniparty" a recognized political party affiliation yet?

They won't even act on a 85/15 issue.....Well, back to naming walking trails in national parks I guess. :dunno:

Reason 55 for an Article V convention.

Instead of for the People, by the People, our country is FOR THE SWAMP, BY THE SWAMP.

Poll after poll shows that the American People WANT VOTER ID.
This POS Thune has to be FIRED.

I said back when he was elected SML that he was a piss-poor choice.

McConnel lite without the brains.

That's what I keep telling my brother who is a big fan. We're more likely to come out with Chinese Credit score and digital ID

Not enough hard left States to make that work for them.

Better chance of passing our stuff. My list in somewhat order.

1. One day national election day for federal elections, 24 hours, national holiday, in person voting except for specific reasons.
2. Census of citizens only.
3. Overturn Morris v board of Estimates, allowing Senate style houses in State legislatures.
4. Clarify the 2nd amendment so even an idiot can figure it out.

Others as I think of them

Do you want the federal government being in charge of elections OP?

If Trump were serious, he could have done all that in 2017

I think things have gotten to that point, and we need to roll the dice.

It is required that 34 states call for a Constitutional Convention, before one can be held.
Twenty have already gone through the process of doing so (if you look it up it will say 19, but another one was added recently).

If it is what you desire and your state has not called for one yet, then you know what you need to do.

But to do that would require a Constitutional amendment.

No, it doesn't.

Article I, Section 4, Clause 1:

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

In reference to why they included the provision for "places of choosing Senators" it was to avoid choosing a single place to vote and everyone being required to travel there.

Interesting. The problem is you won't get it through the Congress at this point anyway.

I forgot about that last part, thanks for reminding me.

No problem, I was under the assumption you had, until I looked it up earlier this morning. :auiqs.jpg:

The only reason I know about the Senator part, is because I kept looking until I found the answer.
It makes more sense why they added it because Senators represent the State and House Members have districts.

Not really smart on my part, just curious enough to look.
