In a Republic, actually
‘The judge called the Florida rules a “pay to vote” system that are unconstitutional when applied to felons “who are otherwise eligible to vote but are genuinely unable to pay the required amount.”’

Needless to say, Republicans will appeal the ruling and continue their voter suppression efforts.

This is also an example of the reprehensible right’s contempt for the will of the people, as the amendment to the Florida constitution restoring voting rights to ex-offenders was approved by an overwhelming majority of voters.

It's a poll tax and thus completely unconstitutional.

But republicans are OK with anything that suppresses turnout.

Republicans have known that if everyone was allowed to vote they would not win elections again.

Their only hope to win is with cheating.

Voter suppression is their go to way of doing that.

They've been doing it for decades. It has to stop.

The biggest reason why our nation has become so divided is because we don't have the government we want and people have given up on voting to change things. The cheating of voter suppression by the republicans has caused so many Americans to believe their vote doesn't count.

All votes count.

More people need to vote. We deserve a government by, for and of the people. As the great president Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address so many years ago.

Look everyone— yet another overt plug for the "right" of criminals to decide your fate. Remember, remember the third of November . . .

If they haven't paid their fine then they're not done with their reparations yet and shouldn't be allowed the right to vote until such time as they've paid in full.

A Poll Tax, you dumb ass....is a general tax on the Right to vote....you have to actually pay a fee to vote..this ain't that you dumb ass....

Sorry, it's a poll tax.

It's ok, I know you only really know that one line from the Constitution you claim to love.

No, it's not. Fines and restitution are conditions of a sentence.

Is this more of your supposed legal expertise? You should probably just stop.

No...moron...if you are a felon, you have to make restitution and other costs....

If you are a non felon, and are forced to pay a tax simply to vote, that is a Poll Tax....you dipshit.

No...it isn't.......if you are a felon you can't vote in the first place.....this says as a felon, you can only vote after you pay the fines you owe for breaking the law........to make your restitution. That isn't a poll tax........nice try though. You want as many low lifes to vote you power you will do anything to get it...

If you are not a criminal, and they make you pay a tax to vote, that is a Poll Tax.........

Voter suppression is their go to way of doing that.

I think I have to agree with the ruling in question.

I do think, however, that it is very telling that the widely-agreed assumption here is that suppressing the voting rights of convicted felons would favor Republicans, and harm Democrats. It certainly tells us which is the party of honest, law-abiding citizens, and which is the party of criminals, doesn't it?

They're free to go back to prison... How about more one year in prison for every $50,000 in fines owed till the debt is paid?

They apparently still owe money for their crimes...... you can't move your car if it is booted until you actually pay the fines....once they pay the fines for their crimes they can vote.....

This is not a Poll Tax...
