The realities of the Trump administration

Trump's worst mistake as a leader was his mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic, resulting in the loss of over 189,000 American lives, and counting, as well as the destruction of the U.S. economy, the largest the world has ever known. To counter this, he has for months suggested crackpot ideas and he constantly attempts to change the subject.

His latest gambit is law and order, which is ironic. The country is being torn apart by racial unrest on his watch. Trump blames Biden for violence.

He comes up with really screwy ideas because he yearns to be the center of attention, and, if that means making a fool of himself, so be it.

His latest crackpot scheme is coming from his new medical advisor. Trump has silenced Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx, who are brilliant epidemiologists.

The Post put it this way. "Dr. Scott W. Atlas has argued that the science of mask wearing is uncertain, that children cannot pass on the coronavirus and that the role of the government is not to stamp out the virus but to protect its most vulnerable citizens as Covid-19 takes its course.

"Ideas like these, both ideologically freighted and scientifically disputed, have propelled the radiologist [not an epidemiologist] and senior fellow at Stanford University’s conservative Hoover Institution into President Trump’s White House, where he is pushing to reshape the administration’s response to the pandemic.

"Mr. Trump has embraced Dr. Atlas, as has Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff, even as he upsets the balance of power within the White House coronavirus task force with ideas that top government doctors and scientists like Anthony S. Fauci, Deborah L. Birx and Jerome Adams, the surgeon general, find misguided — even dangerous — according to people familiar with the task force’s deliberations."

Our President at work. It is amazing how anyone can support this idiot. He wants to kill Americans with the toxic medical advice from his administration.

You are not going to believe this!

Our President just encouraged the voters in North Carolina to vote twice.

NBC News reports, " President Donald Trump suggested that people in North Carolina should vote twice in the November election, once by mail and once in-person, escalating his attempts to cast confusion and doubt on the validity of the results."

Aw, hell, it is on every major (and minor) network and all over the internet.

Trump gathered together hundreds of his unmasked loyal faithful in a close knit crowd in spite of the highly contagious virus and told them, "So let them send it [mail-in ballot] in and let them go vote [in person], and if their system's as good as they say it is, then obviously they won't be able to vote. If it isn't tabulated, they'll be able to vote.”

I am trying to think of something clever to say, but words fail me.

My apologies, but this insanity continues.

President Donald Trump says a Covid-19 vaccine may be approved very soon and he says 500 million doses would be ready to use. He speaks at the White House. (Source: Bloomberg)

One of Trump's people, Robert Redfield, head of the CDC, has told public health officials in all 50 states and five large cities that they should prepare to distribute a coronavirus vaccine to health care workers and other high-risk groups as soon as late October or early November.

Wow! Ain't that something. Just in time for the election. Trump on his white horse coming to save the day.

The Chicago Tribune reports, " The documents were sent out on the same day that President Donald Trump told the nation in his speech to the Republican National Convention that a vaccine might arrive before the end of the year."

Gee, what a coincidence.

The Trib continues, "The possibility of a rollout in late October or early November has also heightened concerns that the Trump administration is seeking to rush the distribution of a vaccine — or simply to hype that one is possible — before Election Day on Nov. 3."

Another one of Trump's people, Stephen Hahn, has said recently it's possible the FDA could authorize an experimental Covid-19 vaccine before large Phase 3 trials are complete.

In the vaccine business, that is unheard of. Eliminating Phase 3 trials so a vaccine can be made available before an important election has never been done before. Ever!

Most important, it should not be done. A vaccine is given to healthy people to prevent a disease. If the people don't trust the vaccine, it is useless.

Some may wonder why I am so critical of Trump. Notwithstanding the unalterable fact that he is totally incompetent as seen by this thread, it is not my fault Trump makes himself look like an idiot every day, multiple times a day.

As seen by this thread, a thread that is not being challenged!

On Trump's watch the U.S. has over six million cases of the coronavirus, and a 190,00 Americans have lost their lives. Trump's America has q quarter of the world's Covid-19 cases, and a quarter of the world's deaths due to the virus. While the U.S. has been averaging over a thousand deaths a day going into the fifth week, the EU, Japan, Australia, and South Korea are averaging between zero and 25 for the most part. United States Coronavirus: 6,290,425 Cases and 189,941 Deaths - Worldometer

Because of Trump's slow reaction to the pandemic -- he made up fanciful stories for three months -- the once great American economy is in tatters. 30 million Americans are out of work and have been for months.

Trump wants us to focus on Nancy Pelosi's hair. Opinion: The real reason Trump wants to talk about Pelosi's hair

In addition, Trump called on CNN to fire its most popular host, Chris Cuomo, after the anchor was heard denying apparent sexual-misconduct allegations on a secretly recorded audiotape amid a conversation with former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen. Trump calls on CNN to fire Chris Cuomo over leaked audio: 'Fredo must go!'

To be perfectly honest, I really don't think Trump wants to be President any more. He is acting like someone who wants to be fired. He wants to return to the Trump Organization where people do what they are told with him doing the telling.

You are not going to believe this!

Our President just encouraged the voters in North Carolina to vote twice.

Trump outright encouraged his supporters to vote twice in a test of election security.

Trump is encouraging his adoring admirers to commit a felony. Since they never question Trump (or attempt to defend him in the case of critics) some in North or South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and elsewhere are likely to do what Trump asked and face a felony indictment.

CNN reports, "Election authorities responded Thursday by pointing out that trying to vote more than once breaches state law and that it is a felony for a voter to intend to commit fraud by casting more than one ballot."

"It is illegal to vote twice in an election," Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections, said in a message to voters.

"Attempting to vote twice in an election or soliciting someone to do so also is a violation of North Carolina law."

In other words, in front of a national television audience, Trump broke the law, but, because he is the President, he cannot be indicted.

The Senate made a huge mistake by not removing Trump from office. Instead, they unleashed an uncontrolled President. We now have an alleged felon for President. American voters will take corrective action on November 3.

Trump's followers remain speechless. No doubt some are are wondering why they are supporting this guy. When a person can't explain what the President is doing, what is the point?

We will never know. Trump's fans are a quiet bunch. They rarely discus what Trump is doing and saying. If they mention him at all, it is in theoretical hyperbole, not what Trump is actually doing and saying.

Fox News, euphemistically called the Trump Network because it tries hard to promote Trump, follows the same pattern. Fos rarely covers what Trump is doing and saying. Occasionally, Fox gives us selected sound bites that make Trump look good, but the network overlooks a lot. During news segments, Fox's interviews on trivial matters are long and tortuous to fill air time.

Avoiding the President creates a huge vacuum.

Our President has been censored again by Twitter.

CNBC reports, “If it [person's mail-in ballot] has not been Counted, VOTE (which is a citizen’s right to do),” Trump wrote in one of the posts that was hidden behind a label."

Trump has a problem with the English language. Many times it is necessary to clarify what he said.

CNBC continued, "The tweets, which were sent out Thursday morning and shared widely on the platform before Twitter took action, encouraged voters who submitted ballots by mail to go to their polling place on Election Day in order to verify that their vote had been counted."

The President’s posts violated Twitter's policy against advocating illegal election activity. “Our goal is to prevent people from sharing advice about voting twice, which may be illegal,” the company wrote.

It is illegal. Voting twice is a felony.

The President was also censured by Facebook.

The silence from Trump's followers amidst all this and more -- much more as shown -- is overwhelmingly significant.

Recently, Trump presented his newest conspiracy theory. "We had somebody get on a plane from a certain city this weekend, and in the plane it was almost completely loaded with thugs wearing these dark uniforms, black uniforms with gear and this and that. They're on a plane."

His story was based on "a firsthand account of a plane going from Washington to wherever," and "it's under investigation right now."

Next, Trump recommended "herd immunity" as explained by his new medical advisor who is not an epidemiologist. Dr. Scott W. Atlas argued that the science of mask wearing is uncertain, that children cannot pass on the coronavirus and that the role of the government is not to stamp out the virus but to protect its most vulnerable citizens as the highly contagious virus runs its course through the population.

Trump then encouraged his adoring admirers to commit a felony. "So let them send it [mail-in ballot] in and let them go vote [in person], and if their system's as good as they say it is, then obviously they won't be able to vote. If it isn't tabulated, they'll be able to vote,” our President said.

Wow! Ain't that something. Just in time for the election.

All this has happened in the past three days!

So, the question should be asked, what do the GOP leaders in Congress think about the performance of our Republican President?

We don't know. Similar to Trump's followers and the Trump Network, er, Fox News, GOP lawmakers are totally silent when it comes to the President. I have been following politics for over a half century. Never have I experienced anything like this. Everyone who supports Trump prefers not to talk about him. When it comes to Trump, there is total silence from the GOP leadership.

Well, not completely silent. Fox News reports, "Two House GOP leaders have officially called on Attorney General William Barr to determine whether House Speaker Nancy Pelosi broke federal law when she ripped up President Trump's State of the Union speech earlier this year."

Occasionally, Fox gives us selected sound bites that make Trump look good, but the network overlooks a lot. During news segments, Fox's interviews on trivial matters are long and tortuous to fill air time.

Fox News is now reporting, "President Trump on Friday oversaw the signing of an agreement between Serbia and Kosovo that normalizes economic relations between the two countries — and also includes Kosovo recognizing Israel, while Serbia agreeing to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

" The Belgrade-Pristina deal was signed by their two leaders – Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo's Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti – in front of Trump in the Oval Office, with Trump describing it as a "major breakthrough.'"

Incomprehensible! Who the freak cares?

On Trump's watch a quarter of the world's virus cases are in the U.S. On Trump's watch a quarter of the world's deaths due to the virus are in the U.S. Because Trump reacted slowly to the pandemic threat, our economy is in tatters with 30 million unemployed. While virus deaths in other industrialized nations are minimal, under Trump the U.S. has been averaging over a thousand a day for five weeks. Coronavirus Update (Live): 26,652,499 Cases and 876,100 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer

The economies in other industrialized have resumed, while ours is stalled.

In addition, our country is being torn apart by racial strife while our President is demanding law and order rather than comprehending the underlying issues that are causing the problem.

And Fox is talking about a meaningless treaty between two small, weak powers on the Balkan Peninsula that means nothing to Americans. I doubt most American know where Kosovo and Serbia are on the map, and I know most of Trump's fans don't know.

Put another way, the Trump Network, much like Trump himself, is making itself irrelevant.

With Trump all of the world's problems are solved with rhetoric. That is because his base usually believes what he says.

One of the world's problems is developing a safe and effective vaccine for the coronavirus.

Fox News reports, " “Under Operation Warp Speed we remain on track to produce a safe and effective vaccine in that record time that we talked about,” Trump said in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. “It will be delivered before, in my opinion, before the end of the year – but it really might even be delivered before the end of October.'"

Voilà, we have a vaccine! It just isn't the end of October yet. Trump's forever faithful are satisfied.

Then there is our disastrous economic, a once great economy that collapsed on Trump's watch because for months he met the approaching pandemic with un-presidential, whimsical statements, an indication he was daydreaming. For example, “99%” of COVID-19 cases are “totally harmless."

Yes, our President actually said that ... on July 8th.

In his rambling press conference today Trump said we were going to have record setting third quarter with a strong GDP. Then he left the room.

Does anyone blame him? The room was filled with savvy reporters.

The way to make an accurate prediction on the economy is to closely examine what has already happened.

The Conference Board says, " With second quarter 2020 GDP growth down minus 32.9 percent the US economy is struggling to recover from the single largest quarterly contraction in 75 years. This historic figure followed a contraction of 5 percent in the first quarter. Moving forward, we expect the economy to rebound in the third quarter, but there are numerous upside and downside risks at play.

"However, a new surge of COVID-19 cases in various parts of the country is threatening to dampen the recovery path. While this resurgence in cases appears to be moderating in some parts of the economy, another threat looms: high unemployment levels and the resulting damage to consumer spending." https://conference-board.org/research/us-forecast

There are 30 million unemployed Americans.

Despite all of this, Trump is expecting a great third quarter. That is sufficient for his adoring admirers. They are happy. Our once great economy is great again. It just hasn't happened yet.

See, all of our problems are solved by rhetoric. Anyway, that's what our President thinks.

Yes, I know. What I said doesn't make sense.

Trump wanted a large bounce coming out of the Republican National Convention, and early evidence is that he did not receive one. The new ABC News/Ipsos poll is especially harsh for Trump. Although it did not poll the horse race, it did poll the candidates' favorability ratings.

Detailed findings:

Among all Americans, responses to the RNC are more negative than the DNC.

Slightly more than one in three Americans (37%) approve of what the Republicans said and did at their convention, compared to 59% who disapprove. After the DNC, 53% approved of the Democrats’ message.

Sixty-two percent feel the Republicans spent too much time criticizing the Democrats, compared to 51% of Americans who said Democrats spent too much time criticizing Republicans at their convention.

Currently, 31% of Americans feel favorable toward Donald Trump, unchanged from last week (32%) and similar to his standing before both conventions (35%).

The same is true for Joe Biden: 46% feel favorable, virtually the same as last week (45%). However, more Americans feel positive toward Biden than negative, an improvement from earlier in August.

Just over a third of Americans (35%) approve of how Trump is handling the response to the coronavirus, unchanged from the end of July (34%).

Views toward Trump, Biden unchanged after the conventions | Ipsos
Donald Trump is trying to run the same type of campaign today as he did in 2016 but it's not working because 2020 America is nothing like 2016. He is no longer the outsider. He is the face of the US government to the country and the world. He's the guy in charge. So he can't attack the government because he is the government as far as the voters are concerned. I think the only thing that might save Trump is to come clean with voters. Admit mistakes, take responsibility, and stop trying to shift the blame because voters don't buy it. Show empathy and understanding, instead hate and threats. Tell voters how you plan to pull the country together instead of tearing it apart. Of course none of this is possible because Trump can't do this. It's not who is.

Trump's biggest mistake has been trying to separate the state of the economy of the nation from the state of the health of the nation. This goes all the way back to January and February when he was downplay the seriousness of the virus. He has refused to acknowledge that economic recovery is dependent on recovering from covid. Thus he's pushes the governors to open up businesses, schools, churches, etc when the virus was spreading like wildfire. Since the CDC guidelines were making it tough for businesses and schools to open, he had the CDC loosen the guidelines. He sees masks and social distancing as bad for economic recovery so he doesn't support them. Instead of giving the country real encouragement, he gives them a pack lies about vaccines, claims the virus is going away, and phony cures. Instead of biting the bullet for few months and doing what is necessary to bring the virus under control as other countries have done, we have taken half ass measures allowing the economy to drag along for months, possibly years while we wait for the nation to be vaccinated which may take years.

Forbes reports, " On Friday, [Jennifer] Griffin—citing two former senior Trump Administration officials—confirmed key elements of The Atlantic’s story, including Trump’s decision not to drive to the Aisle-Marne Cemetery outside Paris to honor fallen American soldiers. “The President drives a lot,” one of Griffin’s sources said, “the other world leaders drove to the cemeteries. He just didn't want to go.'"

via @BreitbartNews All refuted by many witnesses. Jennifer Griffin should be fired for this kind of reporting. Never even called us for comment. @FoxNews is gone!

Forbes continued, "Fox News Channel journalists have rushed to defend their colleague, correspondent Jennifer Griffin, after President Donald Trump suggested on Twitter that Griffin “should be fired” after she confirmed reporting by The Atlantic that detailed President Trump repeatedly disparaging members of the military, the nation’s war dead, and wounded veterans."

Bryan Llenas, a Fox News national correspondent, said “Jennifer Griffin is the kind of reporter we all strive to be like. She’s courageous, smart, ethical, fair and a class act.”

Fox News’ Bret Baier said Griffin “is a great reporter and a total class act,” and FNC’s Trey Yingst said of Griffin, “she embodies what the industry is built upon. Truth and accountability.”

Why are all of them avoiding this thread?

Why are all of them choosing not to defend Trump?

Very strange.

No response.

Well, that is what I expected. Trump's followers make every effort to avoid Trump. They prefer talking about Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Democrats, and BLM, never Trump -- as is shown here.

My experience is people avoid threads when they can't present convincing rebuttal. Trying to defend Trump's leadership of America's response to the conronavirus is like swimming up a waterfall.

I agree, but then one has to wonder, why do they support Trump if they know he is incompetent? His incompetence destroyed our once great economy, and they still support him.

That doesn't make sense.

There loyal support is based on a need for a leader who says what they want to hear. It's probably the most simplest and easiest approach to building support. It matters not whether it's true or not nor whether he does what he says he will do. Just as long as he keeps telling them what they want hear, morning, noon, and night. It's Trump's disillusion Kool Aid. His supporters want to hear the virus is over, so he tells, we just rounded bend. They want to hear the economy is good so he tells them it's good. They want a vaccine, so he tells the vaccine will be ready before the end of the year. They want to hear that BLM is responsible for the violence and not the police killing Blacks so he tells they are. He has no facts to back up his statements but that doesn't matter to his supporters. If you think the typically Trump supporter is being unrealistic and bases his loyalty on faith and pipe dreams, you're right.

One might think that there must be something really special about this president to inspire such loyalty but there isn't. His language is about like my local bartender and his ideas are about as sophisticated as your next door neighbor and that's is a big part of his appeal. The truth about Donald Trump is that he is not all that charismatic. When you take away the glitz and glamour of his brand of salesmanship, the man is actually quite dull, intellectually careless, and socially unsophisticated. Far from being a phenomenal politician, tactical genius, brilliant administrator, or mesmerizing speaker, Trump is, in every sense of the word, average. An average thinker, writer, and speaker. Not the worst of the worst, but merely subpar in every category. In terms of basic spelling and cultural, he is far below average, bordering on incompetent at times. Upon close inspection, there really isn't anything unusual or special about him as a businessman, entertainer, politician, or president. Taken at face value and based on the evidence of his actions, he is an overweight white male who is preoccupied with money, pop culture, fast food, tabloid journalism, womanizing and golf. In other words he is just the kind person his supporters want to see in the White House because they don't like polished, intelligent, socially correct, well manner, politicians.
