A casual look at Donald Trump's POLITICAL life indicates a trait that is somewhat common in politicians, but for The Donald it is an absolute.
He never backs down, never retreats, never admits a mistake or expresses regret. Even when EVERYBODY agrees that he F*cked Up, he continues to maintain that everything he has done is "perfect." When accused of bad behavior - even criminal behavior - he absolutely denies it, or denies that there was anything wrong with it.
And he has been accused of a MOUNTAIN of mis-deeds (most of it total nonsense or lies).
Now contrast this with the recent Michael Bloomberg episode, where he was quoted, on tape, saying that he authorized "stop & frisk" in New York in "Black neighborhoods," because that is where most of the crime was. Rather than defend an initiative that was eminently defensible AND SUCCESSFUL, he has groveled, slobbered all over himself expressing regret for his reasonable, rational statements.
Mr. Biden has similarly engaged in figurative self-flagellation concerning his historical votes and positions on such varied things as immigration, the Iraq war, gay marriage, and international trade.
Which is the better posture to take, politically speaking? One suspects that the Democrat Base is utterly unforgiving today, but there is evidence to the contrary. Many of Democrat leaders today are on record as having condemned illegal immigration, voted for the Iraq War, and opposed gay marriage.
Why are today's Democrat candidates so unwilling to defend their past positions, and willing to apologize for doing nothing wrong?
