I never said the MSM speaks for both parties....they are firmly on the side of the Democrats.

Initial Republican reaction to 9/11 has lead to a loss of privacy but it doesn't explain why the Obama Administration greatly expanded spying on Americans and after eight years in power did nothing to restore freedoms supposedly taken away by Republicans.

Initial Republican reaction to 9/11 has lead to a loss of privacy but it doesn't explain why the Obama Administration greatly expanded spying on Americans and after eight years in power did nothing to restore freedoms supposedly taken away by Republicans.

I read the "Choking Hell" article and it's incredibly overblown. I haven't lost any significant freedoms and neither have the majority of Americans.

America and American interests are one in the same and should be defended.

I don't think rich people's money determine election outcomes, and contributions are still regulated.

Fox News is on the side of the Republicans, and they have the largest share of the TV News market. The rest are liberal.

You might not notice your lack of freedom now, but it comes little by little, taking you unawares, as you clear are.

American interests should be defended. But what happens when they aren't American interests, they're the rich people's interests. Iraq was about OPEC and oil. Many people have made a lot of money out of it, and many poorer people have lost their lives, including 4,000 US soldiers, and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. But everyone's happy right? Because the rich are getting their money, the got rid of the OPEC stranglehold and they're happy, so they tell you that you're happy. So you're happy.

Why?

The first reason is that the US buys Coca-Cola, Pepsi, McDonalds etc en masse.

They spend so much on Advertising. More than $3 billion a year.

The US has the largest advertising spending per capita in the world.

The US people can be bought with advertising and they ARE bought every day with advertising.

The next point is the Koch Brothers. I use them as an example, this isn't to say there aren't others doing the same thing, just these guys are the most fervent.

In the 1980s they ran against Reagan in the Libertarian Party. They lost. And they decided to change people's minds. The Right in the US has become more and more right wing. More towards what the Koch Brothers want. They advertise. They spend money everywhere, pushing people's opinions towards what they want. And it's clearly worked. The right is more right than it was in Reagan's time.

How does this happen? It clearly doesn't just happen, someone or some people are pushing this.

Advertising during an election is important, but the Koch Brothers have figured out that if you do it over a longer period of time, you don't need to promote your own candidates much, they'll be electable because they meet the values the people have been told to meet.

I'm not going to blame Trump. Trump is merely a symptom of the problem. The problem has existed for a long time.

Obama was elected on the promise of hope and Trump was also elected on the promise of hope. Neither will give this hope, but they'll act like they do and did.

The nation has always been divided. In the past the north hated the south because the south sold cotton and wanted export tariffs to be low, but the north wanted to protect its industry from European industry, and so wanted tariffs to be high.

The Civil War was always going to happen, and nothing much has changed since then, other than the South doesn't take up arms any more.

The govt has been trying to implement patriotism. The pledge of allegiance was made in 1892, and then schools have used it to instill patriotism into kids. Flag waving, the national anthem are other ways they have used. The problem is that social issues haven't been dealt with, so the paper thin emotional patriotism hasn't succeeded because not everyone feels like the govt represents them.

Division has always existed, and until people try and deal with the root causes of this division, it'll remain. And most people of the right on this forum are basically upholding the divisions as far as I can see.

The biggest problem is the way people vote. Until this changes, the divisions will remain the same.

Patriotism and unity go hand in hand. That's why liberals; the BLM, antifa, football pawns are using the the nation's flag and anthem to try to promote controversy. The anthem and flag aren't racist. It's about keeping the country in turmoil to get voters to give power back to the Democrats. Divide and conquer.

The problem is that often unity will promote the unity from one side, and cause division on the other, while those who see only unity shout out that they're the patriots because they blah blah blah, while all the while they're causing the bullshit that stops unity in the first place.

The Republicans are hardly a party of unity, now are they? They like the idea of unity, but unity by them forcing others to do what they want them to do.

Hence why they like war, it causes everyone to be patriotic and support their ideas of bomb, killing, death and destruction, and giving legitimate reasons to take away liberty, freedom and a voice, in exchange for their idea of security which is more violence for them to be tough against.

Republicans often disagree but can come together to support the interests of all Americans. Defense of the nation is important. I don't know of any freedoms, or liberties that are being taken away by Republicans. As for voices, the MSM speaks long and loud for Democrats. They bury the negative about Dems and harp about the First Lady's footwear. Liberals are the ones who want to silence the voices of those they disagree with and Antifa and BLM are (strong) arms of the Democrat party.

Democrats promote breaking down society into as many little "us vs. them" groups as possible to keep everyone at each other's throats. They pretend to be protecting segments of society, but what they're really doing is creating government dependence. Democrats don't care about anyone....it's all about the power.

Those who have "social issues" are free to find a practical way of addressing it. The black community is in need of practical solutions. Rich celebrities should be able to provide more than "taking a knee" in petty protest. It accomplishes nothing; in fact, it's having the opposite effect since many are aware the entire protest is based on a lie.....the "hands up, don't shoot." fabrication. Cops who have committed murder have be found guilty, those who haven't have been acquitted. Move on. The "resistance" to President Trump..... not a social issue. Hillary lost! Quit crying and move on.

It's not asking too much to agree on honoring the symbols of this nation. It's a small but important gesture and elitists should get off their knees and stop lying and whining because significant numbers of people are never going to buy into their divisive crap.
