And, for the link-averse among us - the single biggest problem facing our nation right now is obvious and right in front of us. Democracy is broken. Plurality, winner take all elections have driven us into a hopelessly entrenched, increasingly radical and polarized, standoff. Neither side represents the majority.

Approval voting could fix that. It's a very simple change with profound implications. All that changes is that instead of one-voter/one-vote we get one-candidate/one-vote. As a voter you give a thumbs up or down on each candidate. This lets voters vote explicitly for the all of the candidates they approve of, and explicitly against all of the candidates they don't. No more lesser-of-two-evils. Candidates would actually have incentive to appeal to a wide cross sections, rather than a radicalized base.
