The Masters - 2026

He hung on. Adding only one stroke below par the last two days. Could have lost to 2 or 3 of them. But his short game was on. The others missed too many makeable putts under pressure. Rose sad again.

Btw: to Rory haters. Heard he is well liked. No pompous BS. Tips golf staff at least $1000 per when normal is $100. No one ever had a bad word about him allegedly from common man.

Before Rory was done with round three I placed a bet on Scottie at +1475 to win, would have been a big payout. He had a chance and I think he was frustrated playing with Li, who was falling apart and making him wait to putt all day. He came close and almost got there but was erratic off the tee.

Good ending, and all in all still happy for Rory, only Scottie had the same level of confidence to win it.

Scheffler missed at least three putts on the weekend by less than half the width of a golf ball. Golf is indeed a "game of inches." This could have gone either way.

When Rose missed that par putt on (I think it was) 16, it occurred to me that Scheffler effectively won several hundred thousand dollars with that miss, going from tie for second to sole-second.

Although I'm not the greatest Tiger fan, if he had had a six stroke lead on Friday night, he would NOT have shot par over the weekend and won by a single stroke; he would have won by 10.

Starting this thread early. The field for this year's Masters is starting to solidify. Only one week left for those who haven't qualified to play their way in. Gary Woodland qualified yesterday by winning The Texas Children's Houston Open, which is a story all by itself if you know anything about him. 4 other players qualified yesterday in Houston too. This week's tournament is the Valero Texas Open and last chance for any PGA player not already qualified to get in.

I never saw who won! I was rooting for Rory. OMG he won? No way. Not after the 2nd day he let his big lead slip away. So he came back and still did it? I'm so happy for him. He's one of my favorites for sure.

And Scotty almost caught him? No freakin way. He was way behind when I last checked in.

It was Greek Easter this Sunday so I wasn't around to see the end.

Man is that Scotty Scheffler good huh?

Rory has 6 Majors now?

Very disappointing Masters this year. McIlroy is making a mockery of Augusta National. This is not good for golf.

How did he do it?

McIlroy said he’d spent a good amount of time playing Augusta National over the last couple of weeks and that familiarity helped his putting. He said he played the course two weeks ago and was there Monday and Tuesday the week before the tournament. He also arrived on Sunday before Masters week to play with his dad, Gerry, which comes as a perk of winning the tournament.

“I’ve been on this golf course so much the last three weeks, and that’s been a combination of practice and chipping and putting around greens, and then just playing one ball and shooting scores and ending up in weird places that you maybe never find yourself and just trying to figure it out,” McIlroy said Friday. “I think just spending so much time up here has been a big part of it.”

Everyone else was wasting their time at the Arnold Palmer invitational and the Valspar

McIlroy withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Invitational with an injury and tied for 46th a week later at the Players, but he took the next three weeks off, skipping the Valspar in Tampa and the two Texas events.

“I honestly just don’t like the three tournaments leading up to this event,” McIlroy said Friday. “I’d rather come up here. I did a couple of days where I dropped [my daughter] Poppy to school, flew up here, played, landed back home and had dinner with her, or had dinner with [my wife] Erica. Like I did a couple of day trips like that where I felt it was a better use of my time than going to Houston or San Antonio. It wasn’t really about conserving energy, but just I felt the more time I could spend up here, the better.”

After his win, some of these comments were scrutinized. Was he allowed to practice more than others? Was it fair?
