Known as "Bongbong" in the Philippines, Marcos Jr, who is the son and namesake of the late dictator, promised to be a "President for all Filipinos," said Victor Rodriguez, his chief of staff and spokesperson. The victory, if confirmed, would see the Marcos family return to power more than 30 years after they were forced to flee the country in disgrace following a People Power revolution that toppled the regime of Marcos Sr in 1986.
Analysts say Marcos Jr's rise is the culmination of a decades-long attempt to rebrand the Marcos family's name and image, most recently through a supercharged social media campaign. Critics of Marcos Jr are angry at what they say is a whitewashing of Philippines history and an attempt by the Marcos family to rewrite the abuses and corruption committed during his father's dictatorship."
His family history aside, I personally think anyone who claims he was motivated to run for president from watching Ant-Man should not be trusted...and he literally said he and his wife were watching Ant-Man and he suddenly decided to run for president....Is he running because he legitimately wants to serve the people? No...he is running because he is on the tab for hundreds of millions in taxes and it would be pretty nice to be able to use your position as president to wipe away your tax bill....is he running because he legitimately wants to unite his country? No...but it would be pretty nice if you no longer have to account for the billions of dollars your father stole from that country....
However, this is the benefit you have with social media....you can literally rewrite history....Over the years there has been a concerted effort to rewrite the 14 years of martial law that the Phillipines went thru under the Marcos regime (martial law ironically being something many Republicans were calling for -- but I digress)....most kids today are being taught that this time period was a time of peace and prosperity when it was anything but....so if you feed people this type of disinformation over and over again; someone like a Bongbong Marcos can rise back into power...which is also the reason why there is a concerted effort in a place like Russia...to tell the people there that despite hundreds and hundreds of dead Russian soldiers, there isn't a war going on there...just a little exercise....and here in this country -- the most recent attempt at rewriting history is to make the insurrection look like a family picnic -- where Jesus came to restore Jesus Jr to power -- and there was BBQ, fireworks and games for the kids......beware of people who continuously have to lie about history -- because it may very well be done because the truth and history wasn't on their side....
