Elvis made black music mainstream and helped create rock n roll. No other entertainer has made as much of an impact.

Well, he packaged it for white people, who could relate to it if there was a nice, white singer playing it. I'm not sure given the time in this country if that is something to be lauded or not.
Elvis was heavily influenced by the black jazz, soul and gospel singers of his time. He started out loving music but eventually became a caricature of himself. Too bad. He had at least another 20 years in the tank.

His manager Tom Parker should have been fired.

Elvis was more controversial than previously thought. There were allegations which never made it to the media back in his day.

His only talent was picking the best people to rip off.
Would you say the same about Led Zeppelin? In fact, most of the guys who came along in the 60s and 70s were heavily influenced by those blues masters around the US. One hell of a lot of good music came out of the Delta in Mississippi, for example.

Nothing wrong with having influences. Nothing wrong with Elvis either but to call him an innovator is not quite accurate. It took a surprisingly short period of time for his music to be seen as just more rockabilly stuff that was already saturating the market. It's why America all but abandoned the Sun records alumni as soon as the British invasion came along.

The British Invasion musicians were heavily influenced by American rock artists.

He was a talented performer but he never did anything that someone else was not already doing.
Elvis paved the way for the acceptance of black artists into the mainstream.
