Holiday home owners have been travelling to north Wales at night to avoid being detected by police, a North Wales MP has claimed.

Despite the urging of local authorities and government for all non-urgent travel to be restricted, concerns have been raised that some tourists have been flouting the partial lockdown aimed towards slowing down the spread of Covid-19.

Selfish bastards. They really should start locking them up rather than a finger wagging telling off.

Why are they selfish ?

They are just trying to get away from the tsunami that seems to be coming to England

Can someone translate "Dwyfor Meirionnydd's Plaid Cymru MP Liz Saville Roberts" to American English for me? I have no idea what that is.

This is happening in America also. Folks laid off or furloughed from work are moving away from urban environments and moving to their vacation homes in rural areas. It is a matter of debate if this is "urgent" travel since it may be a life or death situation for self and family.

Stupid Welsh language. The first thing the English should have done after defeating them was ban that ridiculous tongue forever.

North Wales has the highest percentage of second homes in the UK. Normally these types would be welcomed as necessary to the local economy. But we are on lockdown , our hospitals are maxed out, our beaches and parks are closed as are all our amenities. They should just sit tight like most people are doing.

Obviously they feel safer in recluse at their vacation home. I live at a beach resort and we have the same situation here. Well, we like it when they bring their money here on vacation and buy overpriced bar drinks and restaurant meals. They own property here and pay property taxes so they have a right to be here. I suppose it is the same where you are.

Not quite. They are responsible for increasing the value of property way beyond what locals can pay. This leads to rural depopulation and has a knock on effect on public services. They don't pay the same taxes because they are classed as second homes so it becomes a vicious circle. Our taxation is controlled from Westminster so we have no say. These areas vote solidly for nationalist candidates.

Is it a big problem to build new ones?

Yes. Much of the area is a national park and any sort of development is restricted. Houses that do get built are snapped up by well heeled incomers.

What is more important - the incomers' wealth or the nation's health?

The fact that we are not able to manage our own affairs. Its a beautiful country and people will want to come and visit. There just needs to be a balance.

Tommy how can it be an invasion if they own homes there? They're not invading, they're taking up residence in their own homes.

Suck it up, buttercup
