One thing I do know is decades ago a lot of things went hush hush and secrets were kept more. Bad behavior, bad morals, and wrongs committed were often hidden, covered up, and kept secret decades ago. This stuff didn't go in the newspapers, now things are much more in the open and moral bad behavior isn't covered up as it was decades ago. I know this because my parents and past generations often would tell me stories of morally bad things that just were covered up. This is true if you talk to retired cops in their 70's, 80's, 90's, they will tell you how much things in the police department got covered up decades ago. Crooked cops getting covered up for. Morally bad behavior done by police officers or outstanding members of the community often got covered up, kept secret, and was hush hush. Sometimes cops didn't rat on other cops in fear they would end up being the next accidental death. I have known cops that have told me they knew of murders that were committed and covered up by cops, also cops that were drug dealers, cops involved with gangs/ mafia/ prostitution rings, etc. All hush hush and never spoken of. I remember as a kid asking my parents if they thought the country was really in a moral decline, their answer was they thought past generations were actually more immoral. The thing is in the past everything was in the closet, hush hush, and people never talked about immoral behavior. Everyone in the past had their own skeletons in the closet, but they acted like it never happened and never discussed it. Look at the Catholic Church. Decades ago priests who were child sex predators in the church were often covered up for, their crimes not talked about, the church denied it, moved priest sex predators out of one church to another church to continue abusing children, and this stuff didn't get into the news till generations later.
